the words could, should, might, possible.

things like this happen when the said items get abused.

Yes, you are quite right.

The dangers are very real, especially when people use (abuse) them as preventatives.

Dr V12 has been vocal about this in the past. With good reason.

Ibuprofen and Diclofenac are ancient drugs. Brought to market in 1968 and 1972 respectively. In RSA we only have 2 drugs that fall under Cox-2 selective drugs. Arcoxia and Celebrex. Celebrex is the only FDA registered one of the two. Celebrex is more than safe for SENSIBLE use.

Patients use the old drugs only because they are cheap and can be bought over the counter - neither are good reasons to use a drug.

I have done enough lecturing for one day.

I learnt a great deal about this family of drugs before during and after a THR (long lectures from my surgeon).

Dr T, that was not a lecture, it was excellent information. Thank you very much.

Those are the lawyers speaking. Most Dr know that reading the pamphlet is likely to lead to death (bored or otherwise).

You should try watching American TV, the ads with any over the counter medication are required to list in voice-over the possible side effects. It seriously takes longer to list those than the actual message in the ad takes.

I will only do a finger inspection if you suspect your eyeball is inserted in your ass....

The dangers of NSAID use during endurance sport are very real- especially drugs that are. More open to abuse- They impare renal artery flow as a side effect of their mechanism and you place you kidneys at risk.

Tim is also fond of quoting that voltaren is the biggest killer at comrades - and they have several studies that agree.

I think that using a cox-2 inhibitor has lower risk during excercise than a Cox 1 inhibitor- but there is little scientific reporting on this as yet.

.

The danger of NSAID was brought home to me again yesterday in a different way.

My Sister-in-law donated a kidney last week and I went to see her at home yesterday and she ordered a glass of water as I poured myself a dop.

I asked her how long before she could have a Vodka and tonic again. She laughed and said that she can have anything she wants except a Cataflam.

But most of them do know how to spell..... and what NO means.....

Please don't confuse Doctors with pharmacists... there will be no knowing what will happen after that.... :)
