This will be my first race. Doing the 45 with a friend. It was a no brainer really with the free beer at the finish line. What I wouldn't do to myself for a free beer...

The elevation looks relatively modest for the distance. Just hoping I'm not biting off more than I can chew. Did a 30km ride (corridor from Aurora to Hillcrest and Conties) with a total climb of close to 800m last week and I struggled.

It's not a very difficult ride. Did it last year and doing the 45 again this year. A nice one to start with I think but maybe try do a 40 or 45k 2 weeks or 10 days before.

And I just entered the PPA Cyclosportif the day after for a nice double header weekend of riding.

Make hay while the sun shines --- gather ye rosebuds while ye may --- tempus fugit - carpe diem and all that jazz.

Countdown has started for the race ;)  Looking forward after not being able to do the longer route last year (arrived there the morning with literally two left shoes)  - lesson noted

Did the shorter one with Pep stores shoes

Hi,

I'm down for my first ever MTB event - doing the 30km and really looking forward to it! Just a bit worried about what to expect with the weather...

What do you guys use for the most accurate weather forecasts for these events? I've looked at Dark Sky, but don't know how reliable that is rural areas in SA.

Thanks!

I use YR.no - which seems to me to be most consistentily there or therabouts - although it does sometimes get it spectacularly wrong.

Good luck with your first event!!

Just checked the weather on two sites, looks like it might be a bit nippy at the start and nice and cool for the rest.  Another benefit of a bit of rain the day before is that it will help with hopefully keeping the dust down. So all and all I am looking forward to a good day on the bike

I'm in Batch C - which is the same as my too ambitious PPA MTB seeding - I think I'm more at home in D or E.

Entryninja whats up with your seeding.... am I the only one? Seems everyone does their own thing.

Yes perfect MTB conditions - but I'd take a 100mm of rainfall on Saturday over a good MTB ride anyday at this stage.

Think there are just 4 starting groups for the 75
