Action camera advice

According to UCI rules you are not allowed to mount a camera on your helmet or chest so it must be on the bike.

How do the pro's get that video so smooth?

Should I rather go for gopro 5 and then overlay the data?

Both Garmin and GoPro now have electronic stabilisation but only for specific res and frame rates. "Smooth" video is usually done via post edit stabilisation or more successfully with a gimbal that stabilises the camera (there are small-format wearable gimbals on the market). If you want a camera just as a "blackbox" then the cycliq products mentioned elsewhere here looks like a great option.

Regarding the stabilization, most cameras have digital stabilization, which is effectively cropping frames to stabilise the video. This can often give 'stabilized' videos an unnatural feel.

A few action cameras, such as ones made by Sony, have actual mechanical stabilization, which result in slightly smoother and more natural stabilization.

If you really want super smooth videos, you'll probably have to invest in a gimbal.

The Garmin I mention above includes stabilisation and also overlays the info automatically...

Stabilisation is cool and does take the edge off things. I have an older Virb and it's a nice feature

Note that while other action cams don't record data like the Virbs, the Virb edit software can pull data from GPS logged files and overlay it. And extra post processing step, but it works.

I pulled the plug on the Eken H9 action camera from Aliexpress. For R560.00 (with accessories), It is a nice cheap alternative instead of the GoPros or Bandits. @1080P/60FPS the battery lasts 1.5 hours.

Ill soon start to experiment with overlaying the videos (Dashware.net).

Apparently I can go gopro but would need to buy an additional powerbank to increase battery life.

Out of curiosity, how long do you want your videos to be? Is it going to be purely for own use or to be shared on social media?

Please share your experience with this camera when you can. It is certainly a cheaper alternative as use on the daily commute.

Cyclist have the habit of falling infront of me during races and for training it must record traffic from behind for safety reasons
