I remember similar forecasts last year, but in the end we froze down in the dips. I'd prepare for patches around 2 to 6 degrees.

A tail wind up Rooiberg. From your mouth to Zeus' ears.

AND! last year temps spiked to 40deg+ with the run in to Calitzdorp CP3.

It broke me.............but luckily it didn't destroy me  ......lol

It was 5 deg (garmin 500)at Calitzdorp Saturday morning at 06h10 a.m. It got colder like you say in the dips especially approaching the first feeding zone after Calitzdorp...just had to hold on I couldn't feel my hands and my toes was freezing up through my shoes...never mind my flipping ears.

I asked the gent at water point how far is first guy(strandloper) he said an 1hr ahead LOL

I thought i didn't hear correctly putting it down to the cold and sleep deprivation...only at prize giving i could work out time diff.

I probably started my decent from Rooiberg around that time... going down I didn't know if my hands was still on the handlebars or not as my fingers was also freezing... I just did the climb and was all sweaty so that did not help things at all going down. The wind chill factor makes it worse. I really had to take it slow cause I could not "feel" my brakes either.

My minimum measured 2deg.

Yup - practice doing up your wind jammer on the downhills, and undoing it as you climb out of the dips (while at the same time turning your light from low to medium on the downhills, and from medium to low on the ups).

There will be times (particularly on the downhills) where you can do either the jammer or the light, but not both. ;)

What are we? A bunch of dirt roadies?!?!? You can still steer the bike via your handlebar light man. One hand free then.

We'll be wheeling all technical like Sagan and watty watting like Kulhavy.

I'm not even a dirt roadie, I'm a proper roadie. :P

(Don't get me started on my issues with riding off road!)

I'm talking about those moments when you need two hands for the jammer zip because it's gotten stuck on some drool or crystallised tears or something.

That Rooiberg water point has got me ??   (The place of my 'demons') They hide there!

I think I have figured out and I would like to believe that the 36One Team got the calculations wrong.

This Rooiberg water point distance got me into investigative mode and hereunder is what I believe the correct distances are against the previous posted. (Measured from Google Map)

The water point at Rooiberg if still at normal spot is 242km not 252km. From that waterpoint to checkpoint 3 - Calitzdorp is 38km, not 28km..... hope I'm right  :whistling:
