Wow, he is lucky! I almost had a ladder smack me back in the 90's in a similar way, darn thing just missed me and the truck driver was oblivious!

Me who used to commute with a backpack often wonder what are the odds of something like that happening as it was not uncommon to be passed by trucks way to close for comfort.

 

Just glad the guy survived.  Don't think he will be using those cycling shorts soon again.

Exactly, how close was the truck to the cyclist, or how far did the rod stick out for this to happen?!!!

The photo is an indication on how close trucks pass cyclists and not only trucks do that.

If you check the yellow line in the photo, it is on the yellow line, and not next to it.

And this is a picture that can be seen every afternoon on that stretch of road.

 

Hope the cyclist is not too shaken to cycle again.
