Entered and ready for my 5th. Aiming for a sub 2:40..

1st lap is balls to the wall red mist and then catch a beer in the tent after and then off for a 2nd lap. Did that last year and it was awesome to do it again. Totally different experience.

Popped out the back of Riversands and joined the route at the Main rd intersection. Gave the Kyalami race track a skip, stopped for a tequila in Bryanston. Just generally soaked up the vibe.

Great day out.

Do you need any special permission for a second lap, or do you just join?

Entered and confirmed my 4th 947. Still debating if I must take a easy fun ride for once or head down and b to the wall. Other option is to do it on a single speed which is probably the route I will be following.

Also decided to enter and quite motivated for first time in a while.

Think this will be my last race in Racing Vets category so will try to be fit for the day. Might do a second loop , but would like to do it with someone like I did at the Argus before joining my brother on his lap around.

Looking forward to this but first there is the Tswane classic that should be great in measuring if you are ready for the 94.7

I'd suggest you consider doing it through the various charity options. That way you will get a Very Early start time in the Double Loop Batch, even before the best Alphabet Soup batches, which will give you a better chance to finish your first lap before the last batch starts.

Doing 4th this year, great day out. Best part, riding down highways not worrying about cars, sun on your back, warm breeze in your face, awesome vibe enjoying the spectacle of thousands of other cyclists, big, small, fat, thin, tall, short, old, young, fast, slow, serious or for fun.

Wouldnt miss it, goodie bags meh, who cares.

Is there a Hub mating call? How does one identify other Hubbers? Or do you just look for the guy with a beer in his hand?

I believe the "I batch" used cable ties on their helmets.

Speaking of I-batch, will there be another I-batch ride this year?

How does one do this "through the charity options"?

Check out the 947 cycle challenge website, there is a section named Ride For A Purpose. You will find a list of charities with their contact details, see which charity is most aligned with what you want to support and contact the coordinator to find out whether they are doing a Double Lap.

Some charities that will definitely do it that comes to mind are Qhubeka and Lumohawk(Joel Stransky). Each charity will have different donation targets you need to reach to be able to join.

You then enter as normal through the website and then ask the coordinator to add you to their Double Loop batch.

They will ask you about your abilities and previous race times just to make sure they don't sign someone up that is never gonna make it.

I hope to be in earlier batch this time around, but haven't done any qualifying races since last year's 947. Maybe time to reactivate the L's again?

Doing ot for a charity. No double lap o speak of. Any other ways?

Just showing your chip to the lady and then stuff it in a pocket for nr.2?

Jip, that is definitely another way to do it.

Double lap for me, again - but this time for another charity... #Amcare (last 2 years was the NSPCA). Lap 1 is most likely in VC (40-44) and then joining up with club mates riding in other bunches before the last groups starts.

Depending your interaction between Hubbers, this could either be greeted with a handshake or sock to the jaw.
