Mechanic repair stand

Hi, fellow hubbers.

I am looking at bringing in a couple of bike repair stands and would like to know what you would consider a fair price point.

Dependent on the freight cost, I am looking selling them between R1000 and R1600.

Look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I know CWC have the occasional sale on a similar item and at very good prices. If you had not got one at CWC, how much would you have been willing to pay for a home repair stand?

I for one wouldn't buy one unless it's high quality. The clamp and clamping arrangement on the low quality one I bought from my LBS is useless. The plastic is too hard and the way in which the clamp tightens is flimsy. If you don't get it 100% correct it makes depressions in the top tube or the bike just drops off onto the floor. I only use mine to wash my bike. The one I have is tork craft!! Absolutely useless for its intended use.

Why not just buy a Parktool PSC9 stand for R1,200 plus VAT and free shipping from Chain Reaction? Probably the best value and quality stand Rand for Rand.

So for a non-Parktool stand, price must be well under R1000. That is probably why the CWC and Torque Craft jobbies come in and around R700-R800

Two options :

Cheap - around R600 - use this for washing the bike

Quality - Parktool is in a different price bracket, and remember there are different units in the Parktool range so carefull when just quoting cheapest prices ....

I built my own workshop stand.  It swings down from the roof trusses when used.  Gradually added the bits and bobs so that it delivers everything I would expect from a top notch stand, including tool trays etc.

Will be buying a cheapy from CWC to wash the bikes ... and if they load their price I will make another plan.

PS - BAD timing for this thread, with CWC about to land their next shipment of workshop stands .... now to see what price they charge ....

Kent welcome to the Hub

As you have seen from the previous replies - well informed audience here.  Also a tough market with MANY points of supply !!

Cheap stand ... LOW price ...

It would have to be Parktool or similar to get attention at a higher price.

I waited since the cycle expo for CWC to get stock.

Purchased a stand from them yesterday at 599.00

I think the quality is really good. Will definately suite my use, not industrial use though.

But ideal for me, and it folds up easily for storage too.

For what it's worth previously all my maintenance work was either done with the bike upside down, or on the floor stand. And that's been going on for around 4years.

Decided I only need a workstand now since I am capable of doing more machy work these days.
