been looking at group-sets

i see most 10 speed rear mechs can max 11-36t cassettes

but theres 11-40t  10speed cassettes?is there some sort of adapter to increase they're range?

id rather then go 10sp with a 11-40 then 11sp with 11-42

I've never tried anything bigger than the 11-36 I have. Opted to get a 24 chain ring (26 present). Main reason for this option was more because I don't like the big change in cadence when the gaps between gears are too big.

Like the Kiwi option. His got some great options available.

Yes see below.

The b-screw allows you to control where your mech will shift to, allowing you to run a 40 or 42.

If you're looking at groups don't bother with 11 speed unless its 11-46.

10 speed is cheaper and comes in 11-40/42 as well.

Got a Sunrace 11 - 42 with a 30 up front. 10 speed GX and it's faultless. Just upgraded my other bike to 1 x 11 XT, again with a sunrace and 11 - 46. Haven't tested it yet but should be fun.

I was fortunate enough to get a new bike last week and it has an XT 1x11 groupo; I'm running a 32 up front with 11-46 at the back and that 46 is a strange beast! Finding it rather difficult to get used to.

Congrats on the new ride. That 46 does look MASSIVE! Also the jump seems to be fairly large across those last cogs as well. What issues are you having?

I did see that Evo bikes have a Sunrace running 11 - 50 as well. That looks a beast! Ratio is: 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32-36-42-50

Thanks! Yes it is a hearty jump up, and I guess I'm just not used to spinning that much! But as with all changes, I'll get used to it and I am 100% sure I will be thanking my lucky stars (and the LBS) when I'm tackling Merino Monster during Tankwa Trek, next year.

I bought an 11-40 10-speed from Evobikes.

They also have 11-42 in 10 speed.  11-42 is much more readily available.

No adaptors required.  Straight swop, and then a quick re-adjustment of the rear derailure and the B-screw on the rear derailure.

LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a 10 speed 11/42 Sunrace cassette with XO 10 speed rear deraileur (X9 trigger shifter) and 34 wide narrow (direct mount) up front on my hard tail.

Only tested it around the block yet, but felt just as smooth as the 11 speed GX on my dual.
