FrikkieMeyer87 Posted June 26, 2017 Share I've got a bit of a conundrum here. I have two bikes, one I just bought, and one I'm going to sell. Before I do though, I want to ensure that I'm keeping the all the bits that's worth keeping for me to ride with. The catch is however, the new bike has got lower-end components on, but current generation. The other has had many of it's components upgraded, but it's about 2 generations old. This begs the question: Is it worth keeping the older, but higher spec'ed parts or rather stick with the newer, but lower spec'ed parts? I've tumbled this question around in my mind a million times, and Googled, and searched, and asked but the feedback seems to be inconclusive. What say ye! Odinson Posted June 26, 2017 Share Perhaps posting the actual bikes might help any potential commentators. #justsaying
dirtypot Posted June 26, 2017 Share It makes a difference which 'parts' you're comparing.
shaper Posted June 26, 2017 Share Depends on the difference is specs... if it XT (old) v SLX (new) then don't bother, on the other hand if is XT (old) and Acera (new) then yes. What are the specs you are comparing?
FrikkieMeyer87 Posted June 26, 2017 Share Here's an example: Option A: Shimano BR/BL-M395 (Acera Hydraulic Brake) VS Option B: Shimano BR/BL-M585 (Deore LX Hydraulic Brakes)
thisismyotherbike Posted June 26, 2017 Share You'll have to be more specific..... I imagine I'd prefer older high-end wheels to new low-end wheels, but that wouldn't necessarily be the case on the groupset. I have often wondered: would I prefer the current gen Shimano 105 5800 (11 speed) or the older Shimano Ultegra 6700 (10 speed). In this case I'd probably go for the newer 105, however if we were comparing previous Dura-Ace vs current 105 or previous 105 vs current Tiagra that may change my view entirely (or simply confuse me!). What are you comparing?

gummibear Posted June 26, 2017 Share Depends more on frame, fork and wheels than the parts alone. Post pics or spec sheets of the 2 bikes.

Kalahari Vegmot Posted June 26, 2017 Share Seeing as you've got both atm, ride on each one and decide which is best? Surely not much more to it than that?
FrikkieMeyer87 Posted June 26, 2017 Share Where's the upgraded parts? Which of those is the "high-spec" version? ;-) Hark hark hark Hey don't judge, that's about as high-spec as my parts go at the moment. That's like when you're a student and you live off 2-min noodles for 2 years, then one day chop a single red vienna in there and feel like Gordon Ramsay But in all fairness, I didn't necessarily mean MY high-end parts, it was more a question in general and I phrased it as such so that others could relate regardless of the level that they're at
