Because of warranties on the vehicles you can only fit agent approved tow bars which are crazy expensive.

Check that out as it should not be a factor, but will be used as a selling tool.

how do the after market towbar guys stay in business otherwise? Towbars typically go on new cars so are all car warranties voided? CPA issue here for sure.

YES

Only "Toyota approved" - read Bosal with SABS mark - may be used on their products

but there are MANY outlets that can fit these, though price fixing comes to mind .....

The likes of TowBarsCape physically cut the steel, weld and make up custom units in-store. NOT APPROVED !!!  Warantee VOID !  And they BUTCHER your car to make it fit .....  jip, I paid these school fees ... never again will they touch my car !!

^^^ what he said ... pretty please.

where can we get this locally ?

I have seen spinnekop has a similar thing for his handle bars and saddle.

Spinnekop, if you read this, where did you get that cover from?

As mentioned in this thread. Steelite in booysens are by far the cheapest for a towbar. Had one on my old car for years.

As for the bike racks on the boot lid DONT. We had a Thule on my missus mini for ages. Never realized the damage it was doing to the boot lid. And I put rubber on at the beginning.

Roof mounts are brilliant have a towbar one but never use it unless we going on holiday .

It's one of those where you need to grit your teeth splurge the bucks feel ill on the amount. But never regret it for the simplicity and ease of it.

I would not skimp on any rack.

Expensive bikes need the best platform to be carried on.

I have a fold out bar on my BMW X3 and Thule Velo Compact 3 bike.

The only time you gonna affect the warranty is if the vehicle is still within warranty. If it is outside this plan, then you can fit any towbar.

A few years ago I had this issue. I bought a towbar. Went to the dealer to fit and found out that there was some electronic modules I needed. I bought it from the dealer. Towbar and installation cost me R3000 as apposed to R5500.

Shop around, Confirm with dealer etc.

I don't think Steelite is SABS approved unless that has changed recently!
