Right,

so i am the proud new owner of a Giant TCX advanced pro 2.

only 1 problem

the standard wheels weigh a whopping 2.5kgs!

to put that into perspective, a set of mk3 crests weigh a shade under 1.6kgs

so i am keen to find a set of wheels to do justice to this bike.

best i have seen so far is R6199 for Crest mk3's with Hope pro 4 hubs

needs to be 12mm through axles

anyone else have or know of a decent set that might be better?

or are the crests the "win" here

congrats on the bike, enjoy the hunt for another wheelset.

Thanks man,

the idea is that i can do my normal road loop and if need be jump off the side to:

  1. Get off a narrow/dangerous road and hopefully in the process stay safer
  2. Enjoy some sweet single track
  3. Why not try something new?

I've been running Rapide R29-21's for about a year now, and they have been absolutely faultless. Easiest thing in the world to switch between QR and thru-axle aswell, and even easier to user service.

Did I mention that I outroll my mate on his Dura-Ace C24's?

(Okay that's not the entire story, I outroll him when the road is super rough coz I run 32mm tyres on the road, and whenever it points steeply downwards coz I'm 10kgs heavier than him. On any smooth, flat road he will freewheel while I pedal)

I wouldn't go low spoke-count on a CX/Gravel/Anyroad/Aero-Endural-Groad setup, so anything 28-32 spoke with sealed cartridge bearings is decent in my books. Some #chinacarbon's on their way...

Happy shopping!

Some Chinese Carbon on DT350s? should be able to pick some up for about R8k all in at the current exchange rate - and they'll probably come in around 1500g.

Thanks for the input all.

But def not going chinese carbon.

I have trust issues

I went through this same issue a few months back when I got the Crux.

Ended up with some second hand Roval Carbons, with 40c on. Some good deals here in classifieds right in your price bracket.

Hi there

CWC has a set of 38mm carbon CX wheels, complete with thru axles - 12mm front and rear. It is not on their website, though, so speak with Jnr. The brand is SALT carbon; I have been riding a set for close to 7 months now and they are brilliant.
