Rocket-Boy Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Smokin gun have an awesome name and look really good. I would probably still go with flows though because 1. Hope hubs and 2. They like corolla's sure everyone has one but its easy to srt out problems with them.
Pikey Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 That's a damn good price.Cost per rim is ~1400 then there's the hubs at 4k MINIMUM and then the spokes and build cost....sweet ???? hub's on special at bike Addict for R3900 + R1400 p/r that's R6700 before spoke ,nipples and build cost. Must be another R2k ish ?? Only advantage of building would be colour choice of hub & nipple .

And I love my hope brakes for they are just brilliantly reliable ????
BaGearA Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Hope hubs + South industries rims Don't know how tight the budget is but if you want to go all out i9 hubs on south industries
Johnny Lawless Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Of those 2 and with those tire sizes I'd go for the Flows. 40mm internal is pushing past the boundaries of most 2.35-2.5 tires and you have to choose very carefully to ensure the tread doesn't get too square on the wider rims. With 2.25's they'd be far too wide. If you were thinking of schwalbe 2.35/maxxis 2.5wt/maxxis 2.6 and larger then the smoking guns would be more relevant, and they could be argued for. Also. Getting replacement stuff (rims / spokes / internals) for the flow/hope mix will be FAR easier and cost effective than the AC'sMyles recommending narrower rims...never thought I'd see the day
Johnny Lawless Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Go with hope and I would suggest arch mk3 over flow. The new arch is the same width as the old flow. 2.2-2.3.No need in my opinion to go wider than the archCouldn't agree more: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXPc0xyAGpB/?r=wa1
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Myles recommending narrower rims...never thought I'd see the day There's wide.... And then there's wiiiiiiiiiiide
Pikey Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 There's wide.... And then there's wiiiiiiiiiiideHave some plus wheels already so got me some wiiiiiiiiide wheels????

Pikey Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Hope hubs + South industries rims Don't know how tight the budget is but if you want to go all out i9 hubs on south industries spoke to nico from south industries he recommended waiting for the new enduro/trail wheel for 9'rs. And have just broken a Carbon wheel 2 weeks back after only 14months of use. SRAM Roam 60's ????
Pikey Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 If I was thinking of going Carbon would seriously consider these ????https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/260938-easton-haven-carbon-29/Best wheels I ever owned and never hurt them after much abuse . One of those things you regret .

Asked them if they could do boost on the rear (which wasn't listed on the sale) and also asked for black spoke nipples. No issues.
Pikey Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Yeah well there you go.As soon as I get my pike sorted can test them ...can't wait actually ????????????????

The special they have is on a boost set of hub's ????Waiting to see if they have xd driver .
lechatnoir Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 The special they have is on a boost set of hub's Waiting to see if they have xd driver . Pretty certain that can be arranged at CWC - Hope drivers just pop on and off - picked up some Flow3's on Mk4's last week and the drivers were just swappe. BUT... if you do this, make sure all the spacers are fitted, else you're going back to get your wheels sorted and you WILL be peeved. FWIW, mine were 6199, but only boost rear
Mawbs Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 anyone else heard of these new Flow Mk3 cracking in the middle between the spokes ??
