Looking at getting a dropper post. Choice has been narrowed down to either the Rapide or the Lyne. Lyne gets good reviews. Cannot find anything on the Rapide.

From what I can see the Lyne is R2199 and i need to add a lever?

The Rapide is R1599 with a lever included.

Please help me to spend da money :D

O ja, and can the Anthem use a external or internal routed post?

Depends on which model Anthem.

ie: Whether your specific model frame came with stealth routing options.

There is also one distinct difference between the two offerings you should be aware of.

Should you opt for external routing.

The Rapide dropper has its actuation cable located on the post where it clamps your saddle.

This means that when you raise or drop your post the cable moves with it. It means that every time you actuate your dropper. Your cable and housing with slide along with it. Something to be aware of when you do your routing. It isn't the end of the world, but a world without such a minor niggle is a better one in my opinion. And most people will agree.

For a bit extra. Lyne's offering has its cable actuation point located on the collar. This means that when you raise or drop your post. The cable stays put. You route it once as best you can and that's where it stays till its service time.

You have to decide between the two.

Both products are well made and both companies offer good service.

Good luck

Save a bit and get the Fox Transfer. There is one fo R3750 in the classifieds. It's in a different league.

Besides the price, the only problem with the Fox Transfer is that the casing of the post isn't solid enough. If the post is clamped to the required 5Nm, it squeezes the dropper internals and the seat gets stuck down.

You have to use carbon paste and clamp the post at 3-4Nm and hope it doesn't slide down further into the frame.

I got the Lyne 2 weeks ago with Internal routing.

Loving it!

I did buy the upgrade lever as its much more ergo. The standard lever is not so great.

Hey guys,

Sorry for jacking this post but im in need of a dropper 30.9 diameter post with 100mm travel and external routing (I have a Rocky Mountain Slayer 2014 so don't think I can fit internal cabling). I found a used Rockshox Reverb for a good price but unfortunately turned out to be a 125mm.

Can anyone recommend a good dropper NEW for a good price. Trying to find a 100mm travel dropper used is proving very difficult.

Thanks :)

You get the Giant Contact SL Switch seat post in 100mm travel & 30.9.

Expect some to side play and an annoying rattle when it's dropped. Also the remote is pretty average but there are ways around that.

If you're specifically looking for a 100mm dropper because you can't get the seat low enough with a 125mm dropper, then cutting your seat tube shorter is an option.

This is quite a significant advantage if you are going external routing.

Nothing more irritating than your dropper dropped to its lowest point, suspension compressed and the cable intermittently rubbing on your back tyre...

I have that problem on my commi. Its the tmars mechanical dropper. The cable is fixed at the collar so it doesn't  move with the post. But the cable protrudes perpendicular from the seatpost. Causing a bit of cable 'bulge' behind the bike and I have buzzed that cable before when I bottomed out. I moved it as best as I could and don't have the clearence issue anymore. But its something I check on the bike regularly. Not too much of a concern but still a pain in the ass I could do without.

I had the giant dropper a couple years back too. Before they went all black. Those were good droppers. Certainly without all the issues the new ones suffer from. But it too was a pain in the ass because of the cable that was fixed to the saddle clamp. I ended up routing it so that when I drop it. The cable bulge would be below the bb. It was less of a bulge than behind the post and not really noticeable.

I fitted a Transfer a few weeks ago. Have not had this issue at all.

My Giant cartridge finally gave up the ghost this weekend (after 2.5 years of solid use). R660 for a replacement which isn't too bad though.

My cartridge also gave up the ghost - just had it pumped up (refill) to 1.2bar. It can be done in the same machine that re-pressures struts. As good as new at about R50. Took it to McNaughtan's and they have branches in KZN.

Not more than 1.2 though.
