Is anyone using road disc brakes at road races?

I would think it would be way safer with hydro discs on argus day so you can stop fast enough to avoid all the pallukas who con't hold their line or ride in a bunch.

Throwing a mix of rim and discs brakes into that mix is going to be fun. Will be interesting to see crash stats after the next World Funride Champs  :whistling:

But the Argus is so flat that the momentum generated by the extra weight on the flats will carry them up the bumps better.

There isn't a single real hill on the route so a couple hundred grams bike weight gets thrown out the window.

Big bunches, loads of inexperience, lack of confidence, superb braking capability.  Sounds like fun to me  :whistling:

It's been going on for years with guys riding on their MTB's... I just think it's funny how it's conveniently forgotten that people have been 'safely' negotiating their hydro mtb brakes on the road without going over the bars every time a squirrel drops an acorn. Why would hydro on a road bike be any different?

Pulling your brakes hard in the bunch will cause an accident regardless of the brake type.

There is already a mix of carbon rims and alu rims in the bunch, where there is also a difference in braking performance.

A guy grabbing a handful of rim brake will also cause a crash.

Agreed. Disks/calipers: risk is the same for bunch racing. Imo disk wont prevent or reduce bunch pile-ups.

It is perfect good stupid argument that one would expect from a biased rimmer, so sorry that I didn't pick up on the sarcasm. ;)

That is what happens if you are not well ventilated  ^_^

Can we insert a joke about rimming here?

Ventilate for rimming, yes

Don't need to be able to stop to become a participant in pallookaism. Many crashes going up smits and chappies during the 2018 FRWC

I had a disc BMC for a few days while my bike was in for repairs and it was an eye opening experience.

The bike was fitted with 28mm tyres and 140mm brake discs.

First day was ok as the route was flat but eish....the second day was crazy.Had a long 4km descent with a few hairpin bends and on 2 occasions the brakes got hot and the power faded and i almost crappped myself. Not sure of the type of resin on the pads but they  also wore down very fast.

3rd day it was raining and there is just to much braking power for the thin tyres.Tyres locked up a few times and is not funny when you not expecting it.

Theres a reason why motorbikes have ABS and i hope the next move for road bikes is ABS with the discs   :whistling:

I'll stick to my rim brakes for now thanks

imagine the chaos in the next few Arguses - sorry didn't

On another disc brake specific topic, does anyone know if International trade bring in the WTB Horizon or Byway tire?

I can't find any info on them locally and most on line shops seem to be sold out....
