Kayamandi Stellenbosch Attacks - Again

As mentioned I have, once this train is steaming forward more and more pressure will be placed on all responsible parties until they do what they are supposed to do and not just talk and talk....

and still nothing happens, OK guys and gals, please forward or copy this post to all your connections if you also believe safety, security and free unhindered movement on you bicycle is important to you and all your friends and family, it is about time that the PPA, Stellenbosch and all the race organisers that arrange events in this town realise that things are now gonna become a social media nightmare for them.

 

The world cup organisers for 2018 will also be informed, I.E stats will be going through to them painting a true picture of what is happening to cyclists, hikers etc. in the stellenbosch area, will be interesting to see if they would still want their UCI rated riders exposed to the crime in the area....international members and media will also be here for the event all these will arrive 1, 2 weeks before the event, the additional income stream that will be generated for stellenbosch will be in the millions, why should they benefit from such.....

 

it is one thing to have things progress at a snails pace and have it addressed and resolved, but to be ignored totally, that's just plain rude....

Just follow any of the Stellenbosch cycling groups.. Attacks happens almost weekly.

And another attack happens, not kayamandi but hells hoogte, ...it is still Stellenbosch surrounds..., please share this with all you cycling friends...

I have approached an establishment in Stellies for financial support in getting a security guard on weekends, they are really keen.... Once confirmed, would you guys and gals support them, knowing that they support us as cyclists..... i know we have different preferences, but i would much rather support when being supported.....

I was fortunate enough to cycle Hells hoogte once and it is such a awesome stretch.  Pity that crime takes away all that is good in SA.

I will continue to cycle over Helshoogte to Franschhoek. I will not let criminals take that joy away from me.

is there a compilation of where and what time of day these attacks happen?  i'm sure a trend can be spotted.

 

personally, i've never had a problem going up hels or going past kayamandi at various times of the day during the week and the weekend.  the worst thing i experienced was some naughty kids flinging stones at us when we passed cloetesville. (only happened once)  i've had people greet me, chat to me and even high five me as i cycled through these so-called "danger areas".

Seems to be whenever their money runs out for drugs/drink .  Really random, from very early morning, broad daylight till late evening.  Also don't matter if you one or 10 people.

 

I also still cycle hells once a week.  But I am very weary of anyone that looks dodge.
