Any word if the times are going to be corrected? We were stopped for 10 minutes...

I did the MTB 12km with my son. It was his first 'real race' because these others were normally these 4km flat loops. This actually had 299m climbing and I saw a lot of adults sukkeling on the climbs. The descents I also saw a lot of falls. My son not use to these long descents, gathering speed, he took a few tumbles but towards the end he actually started getting the hang of feathering the brakes as opposed to locking up. We had a jol of the time and was great to see so many parent and young child combinations. For a 7 year old, he just didn't have the legs nor the gears for those climbs, but he had a huge heart and he had me. (btw, he then went for a quick spin at Hazendal afterwards, can't get enough)

Mini Savage did OKish.

He came in at 2h40 with mostly the GH bunch. He says he felt very strong at the end, but pap in the first 40km. He got dropped out of the D bunch after 30km. I think it is the 5 hours sleep he got. We left Strand at 4h30 after a 3h30 wake-up call.

At least he did beat his main rival for the second time in a row. This guy beat him in all the Spur School MTB races. Now it is payback time.

Saw him at the finish shoot and he disappeared!! Had a steri stumpi for him and a cool beverage for you!!

Hope he is having a blast on the road!!

Chatted to guys at finish, as all of Cat 1 stopped and racing for places does not look like times will be adjusted, for seeding the winners time will probably get adjusted accordingly.

(You guys did get a little 10 min rest though :P)

was good to see more marshals out today. i saw a lady that crashed near windmeul. hope she's okay. it looked quite serious, saw the ambulance on it's way there.

this is the second race in a row where people have crashed in corners. not good to see.

hope those injured get well soon.

That was me :( lost all skin on my left side and stitches in the knee. Someone threw something down and took out my front wheel. Smashed shifter and handlebar but otherwise the bike and me are ok!

Just dreading the shower :/

Saw her as well, blood everywhere. Plenty of help around her which was good. Saw her again at the finish line waiting for somebody else, she had a heavy bandage around her knee but I think she's ok

Thanks - no skin left on my left side and stitches in the knee but I’m managing :)

Shame!! What happened?? Hope you heel fast!!

On an unrelated note, heard a bike was stolen today

Someone threw or dropped something down and took out my front wheel as we went round the corner. Left shifter/handlebar and my shoulder, elbow and knee took the brunt of it. Luckily frame seems ok!! Totally dreading the shower now haha.

These bike thefts at races have GOT to stop. Such a nightmare!!

Yes, I was on a mission. Needed to run a few errands for my W2W prep. I owe you one at the Stellies Tour finish.

He loves road riding also. I think he likes the different approach to 2 wheels riding compared to MTB, where he loves the technical nature of the riding.

What is the total ascent y'all got on the 63km MTB route? I have 1838m in Strava (ground clamp) and 1913m in Sports-Tracker (GPS altitude).

Reading about how ouch things went on the smooth flat tarmac today I'm glad I opted for the "dangerous dirt". My old man went and did the 90km road ride on his MTB, managed not to die and finish in under 5 hours. Not bad for a 67 year old that does not train at all.

Both him and me are only taking our monkey bikes to Langebaan in 2 weeks time for the road and MTB rides.

I got 62km and 1700m. Tough route but thankfully not as bad as last year.
