Vehicle transport booked

Bike serviced booked

Massage booked

Earplugs... still looking

Due south have little packs that have 3 pairs of mouldable ear plugs in a little container. Also saw something like that at Clicks and Dischem. Hope that helps. I am intrigued by this transport business. We booked into a guesthouse which is about 1.5km away so will loosen up with a brisk walk. Haha

Using the transport to take my vehicle to OakValley and then to Onrus, cost a bit more, but at least I can have some extra storage and tools in the vehicle ;-)

Earplugs from Due South worked well. A powerbank would be useful but there is a charging kiosk (well there was last year). Really enjoyed the Ride last year but if you can take Thu and Fri off from work. After the awesomeness of w2w from Mon to Wed, being back behind the desk on Thu was very depressing.

Jealous of you guys. You are going to have an absolute blast!

Ai injuries are bad. I reckon we will all pull you through at the back there. Going for the jol, not a racing snake at all. We will be in full baggies. And we both buffalos...

Thxs... Will take u up on that offer. We not racing either. Just want to finish and enjoy the experience

All you first timers, do not get caught up in the "red mist" on day one, and start racing from the gun.

That portage section up the ou wapad is not to be sneezed at. Better get there with relatively fresh legs, carrying / pushing a bike up there is not easy. And there is a fair bit of climbing to be done, before you get there.

From the waterpoint after the portage section you can gooi mielies, if you have the legs.

That is the "compulsory portage" thingy around 40km?

Thanks for the advice.

That actually remind me, I actually wanted to practice carrying my bike up a steep incline.  What is the best suggestion ?  Just put it over your shoulder and soldier up?  Or is that when it helps having a camelback?

Nothing, but nothing, prepares you for that portage.

Some of the "steps" up is so high you cannot push your bike over it, you have to lift it up and carry it. With the steep angle, you use your calves and Achilles tendon more than you ever do on a bike. After a while they are so sore, you get this un-controleable urge to find a suitable rock to spend a few moments admiring the view (and believe me, it is worth admiring).

Carrying the bike over your shoulder is the correct way to do it, but  about three quarters of the way up, I wanted to grab my bike by the front wheel and drag it up,

Nah, it's not really that bad. Hard, but not overly so....

The view over the bay on the other hand, you must take time out to take it in, I promise you.

Give it to your partner to carry. Tell him you will do the next one.........

I think my wife will be quite 'chatty' up that wapad.

I have been warned before. It is horrible. As long as we get there after about 4h30 of riding we should be fine I told her. If it rains it will be quite interesting.

I don't understand why the trekkers did not just take SIr Lowries Pass. :whistling:

Ah, the portage section...Whilst enjoying your ascent just spare a thought for the okes who in days gone by, used to get up there with a wagon! A rather humbling experience.
