So what do you suggest they do? Should they make Valverde try an early long range attack? Should Tom D maybe try go up the road? Maybe Dan Martin should try solo to a victory at some stage. Wow it would be amazing if the top teams number 2 made and attack and made it stick putting time into the leader. You know the pace is hot when your new young talent needs to check out with out even hitting the front.

There-Their..........

proofed?????

and you need to have a space after a full stop.

Bring on the iconic day. A double dose of HC and then "the 21 switch backs".

Who spent too many pennies yesterday and who didn't?

All will be revealed in 4 hour's time....

C'mon GC/Climbers - you owe me some fantasy points and today is the day to deliver!

Looking forward to it. Prediction - Sky ride super hard tempo over first 2 HC's and CF flies up Alpe d'Huez. (But I have been wrong before)

It's still early days IMO.

Very true.

Many a contender is going to blow up on a mountain slope.

Thinking back to Yates in the Giro, everything was looking peachy till the middle of week 3 and poof, all gone.

Safe bet, someone is gonna do the same, but difficult to know who that someone is going to be. Might just as well be Froome and/or Gerraint...

I always enjoy lacets de Montvernier. Not the hardest climb (Cat 2) but the most scenic.

Agreed! It's a pity (and mind blowing) that something so beautiful and daunting is only the 4th hardest climb today!

I'm a little conflicted. Froome is normally best in "week 3" when other legs are more knackered than his but I suspect he doesn't like playing second fiddle at Sky.

I'm going to agree with you!

That looks like a really long and twistier version of Red Hill near Simon's Town. And just as much fun to climb!

The trick for Froome is going to be how short he can keep his T2 transition time from the Bike leg to the Run leg. The last time he spent too much time in T2 and it showed in his results in the end. ;)

Slightly off topic. As I mentioned a few pages ago, this year is the first time that I have made an effort to watch Le Tour, although the name 'Miguel Indurain' rings a bell. I must have heard the name somewhere along the line between '91 and '95.

The sport needs a re think in general. The sponsorship disparity is killing it a little. A Domestique at Sky is paid more than a team leader at other teams. I wont even start with the team with a decent budget but brings a soggy trident attack to the tour.

The organisers make mountains of cash from the television rights for the tours and one day events, the teams see none of this. The TV rights should go to funding the teams that bring you the magic on TV!! Then you would not have one team being able to buy 6 GC team leaders as super domestiques. Just look at ex Sky riders that are now team leaders on smaller teams, Landa, Uran, Porte and Nieve. There were also the like of Viviani, Cav etc for sprint stages.

It just boggles the mind that in a sport which has so much $$ the players get so little.

Exactly what Tinkoff was trying to achieve.
