Well unless CreamCheese goes and hides in Spain with Matthew White for a few weeks and comes back to rock the Vuelta, that 2020 might need to be pushed a year or two while Doug tried to buy somebody that can podium.

Yeah I wonder what has happened to LM. Sure he is young but there are other youngsters doing big things. He has just gone completely off the boil. Maybe his head is not in the right spot. I really do hope for the best for him and the team. They definitely need to have a re look at the layout and objectives of the team. Unless you Sagan/Majka/Bora/Tinkoff you can't focus on 2 jerseys at once. If you are a GC rider and have your heart set on riding for the wolfpack you will be disappointed and the same goes for someone like Viviani at sky.

Having second thoughts on CF attacking on the Alpe. I don't think he will want to ride up there on his own. And I don't think a guy with the chance of joining the few that have won 5 tours will 'sit up' for one of his teammates. He's already done that with Wiggins.

Just read an article on stage 17. Yoh I can't wait. That is going to be so exciting. The top 20 will change so much between now and then so team tactics need to be spot on. Being a new format I can't wait to see the different teams thinking on how to approach it.

I also dont see it as he will sit up, but having experienced the same, I dont think he will be against giving someone a chance.

I think we could see GT going up the road again, Froome sitting in again and only going after the front guys chasing GT. This will suddenly shift attention off of Froome for the next weeks mountains and he will be able to go off the front there, with GT following what he can.

When was the last time they went up Alp'd? Seem to remember it was in the 3rd week and the last mountain stage and NQ actually attacked and made up some time. One can hope...

Serge Pauwels to go into the break again today? Only 12 points behind Alaphillipe in the Polka Dot Jersey. He could take the points in the first three climbs and then sit in the Polka Dot before the Sky duo comes past on the last climb for the 1-2 finish....

It is not looking good for them..all the nice ads and sweet team announcements won't make sponsors stick around for results that may or may not come one day...

Buying a podium finisher comes with getting support riders for them too.

DD desperately need some kind of win and Serge in dots would be awesome.

Gooo the Serge!

If team sky is transforming weekend warriors to GC contenders, why are the other teams not doing the same??

GT has gone from Barloworld fatty to Track champ to Classics hopeful to GC strongman...

Weekend warriors? I think you've just done 20 or so riders a massive disservice.

Doping hysteria aside my feeling is that Sky run their riders closer to the limits than other teams. Almost every rider that joins Sky loses body fat and gets stronger. The naysayers will scream doping but I think they're medically better than other teams. More budget equals more doctors equals a more medical science approach to getting fit.

Their future GC plans are for a 2020 GT podiumTDF WIN? I hope the still WT in 2020. At this rate they won't be and will have to rely on wild card entries.

It's more of a mountain than that:

http://africasteam.com/2018/05/07/vision-2020-begins/

Our African Team has a vision, a vision that has us targeting the yellow jersey at the 2020 Tour de France with an African rider. The 2018 Giro d’Italia is the first key building block to that vision, as we tackle the Italian grand tour with Louis Meintjes as our GC leader.

Now what is the chances of DDD winning the 2020 TdF with an african rider?

Obviously the first thing they need to do is change the team from a sprint train to a GC team with climbers. Essentially buy a new team, not many okes with a Q on their back once the mountains arrive.

You can buy climbers and support, let's just assume they can buy their own skyborgs (because that is what you need).

Who is going to be your African winner.

*The only clear option is Maincheese. He is a long way from winning any big bike race currently, so there is no way they can put all their eggs in the basket.

*They've had nic dlamini in some of their promo stuff for Vision 2020, but he's not really an option for winning the biggest cycle race in 24 months time. I don't see who else would be a GC contender from south africa

*most of their "other" african riders have been dropped from the squad, they have just 4 left. Could they find some Ethiopian/Kenyan mountaingoat and turn him into a TdF winner in 24 months?

*speaking of Kenyan Mountain Goats...there is one other option who was born in Kenya, raced in South Africa and could definitely be considered African. I'm not sure how long his contract is with 21st century fox, but it would probably need the team to fold for him to consider a move. and it wouldn't really be seen as a developing an african winner of the tour either.
