Believe me he got more grief for that lame excuse and the fact he said he was trying to shed kegs then actually getting banned. the general consensus back home was he should have been given an extra 12 months for being a tool and roping his mom in to it!

If I am correct Simoni had blamed cookies that he got from Columbia on his cocaine positive back in the day.

There are some funny excuses that do come out when they in trouble.

8. Dennis Mitchell. The American sprinter and 1992 Olympic gold medal winner as part of the 400-meter relay team tested positive for high levels of testosterone in 1998. His defense was that his maleness was up because he had five beers and had sex with his wife five times the night before. "It was her birthday. The lady deserved a treat," he explained.

At least Paolini didn't try blame anyone else for his habits, took ownership of it and got help.

Weird that recreational drug use gets you ostracized from the Peloton, but blind eyes get turned when performance enhancing substances are involved.

If you want an insight into the murky world of doping then download a Netfix film called Icarus.

"When filmmaker Bryan Fogel sets out to uncover the truth about doping in sports, a chance meeting with a Russian scientist transforms his story from a personal experiment into a geopolitical thriller. Dirty urine, unexplained death and Olympic gold are all part of the exposure of the biggest scandal in sports history."
