Well organized event, fantastic goody bag, friendly people, spectacular scenery and a beautiful part of our world with plenty corrugation and rocks and loose sand. Couldn’t go full gas on some of the delicious downhills as i was shaken and stirred so much that i had to slow down to regain consciousness on my gravel bike (40c Maxxis Ramblers - needed wider tyres). Some serious climbing of almost 3100 m, needed some easier gears for some of the climbs at the end and had to walk as my little legs were cooked (52/36 | 11/30)! Would love to go back riding it on my Niner MCR htail with rigid carbon fork, it has much better gearing and will add drop bars with sti’s for more hand positions. Overall a great event.

Here’s a relive route map:

Awesome! I like what you did with this Relive Clip, how do you make a Youtube video of it & add the race logo?

Also what happened at 15sec into the clip, just before the Uitkyk pass, bad GPS signal or wrong turn?

What are your thoughts on the 2019 Cederberg100Miler Race doing a circular route: Clanwilliam, Pakhuys Pass, Heuningvlei, Wupperthal, Eselbank, Matjiesrivier, Kromrivier, Algeria and back to Clanwilliam?

The same distance (160km) and climbing (3000m) as the current format Clanwilliam to Kaleo.

If it does that i’ll definately be back. Point to point is a bit of a drag to get the wife or someone to fetch you at the finish line and then a new place to stay over. So i’m all for your suggestion!

Sounds cool to me, I'm in!

Always wanted to see those parts. I recall way back there were talks of a TransCeder that was about 193km and dubbed "the widow maker", included some of those parts.

A circular route is probably the better option, if people have one less thing to worry about & organise like logistics for the start & finish then it becomes so much more easier to decide to enter.

Dont know the area too well will the route still be gravel roads \ district roads? what is the road  condition like?

The route will not be gravel or district roads only. There will also be some jeep track. We did a scout recently and will post some pics and a breakdown of the route shortly.

Great idea. Point to point races can be a logistical hassle. I think a circular route would tempt more people to enter.

The 2019 Cederberg100Miler will take place on 6-7 April.

The 1-day Race will start with Pakhuys Pass (21km tar and 1 000m ascent). From here it will be mostly jeep track and gravel road though Heuningvlei, Wupperthal. Eselbank and Kromrivier. After the 100km mark it will be mostly district road back to Clanwilliam.

This is definitely a mountain bike route and not a gravel bike route.

This year the Cederberg100Miler Race was a week before the Swartberg100 (Cederberg + Swarberg = Double Trouble), which suited me perfectly as I wanted to do both, seeing that i was traveling all the way from Joburg. If the two events are more than a week apart, i can’t do both.

Edit:

Now if we get the organisers to have the

Cederberg100Miler Race + 36one + Swartberg100 Gran Fondo

three weeks in a row, we have a tripple challenge on our hands for 2019...

unconfirmed but I heard that Swartberg 100 Miler also wants to move their event a week or 2 earlier.
