Porcupine Ridge MTB Challenge 2018, organised by the Franschhoek Lions Club is now in it's 19th year.

2018 promises to take you back to your MTB roots. Fun and exciting routes & trails in and around the Berg river Dam with spectacular views of the Franschhoek Mountains. These trails are ridden by very few with three routes on offer.

We also welcome back our coach and race ambassador, Joanna Dobinson from Biking in the Bosch who will be in the mix and assisting all our riders.

Taking place at the Bridgehouse School on the 27th January 2018. Long Route - 54kms | 7am | Medium Route - 36kms | 7.45am | Short Route - 12kms | 8am | Don't let the distances fool you!

You will experience a mix of Single Track, Gnarly Down Hills, Steep Climbs and water crossings.

5 Water Points on offer - We are excited to announce that our fellow mountain biker and Franschhoek's most loved Chef, Neil Jewell from Bread & Wine will be tending to a Water Point. Stop for his Naked Droerwors, Miss Molly Mossbolletjies, homemade fruitgums and loads more home made goodies.

Both the long and short route will be going past these water points.

Not Riding? No Problem - There will be a jumping castle for the kiddies.

Please note that we will have no bike wash due to the water crisis.

* FUNDS RAISED This is the 19th MTB event to be held in Franschhoek. Monies raised from this event go towards “Site First”. This project helps save the eyesight of local farm workers and underprivileged from the young to the elderly within the community by eye screening, eye care and cataract surgeries. On 7th June 2017 a total of 307 people from the Franschhoek community went for eye screening and supplied with reading glasses from which 105 were referred for further testing at a local optometrist. They will receive tested spectacles if required and this is all paid for by the Franschhoek Lions Club from our Sight First Projects.

Vendors - Franschhoek cycles will be at the start line for any last minute tweeks, repairs, etc. - Krank'd Gear Food and Beverages - Terbodore Coffee and pulled pork buns - Pancakes - Boerewors Rolls - Ice Cream

The Finish line will also be sponsored by Porcupine Ridge with chilled wines.

Mostly the same. The medium route will be changed due to the drought.

There are 3 or 4 of us planning to enter the event but deciding between the medium and the long distance. Can you provide route profiles for the medium and long? Or just total ascent for each will do.

I would also like to view the route profile for the 54km, please. Does anyone know a link to the profile? It's not available on the entry page.

Is this confirmed? Where do we find the route profiles?

Found this for what it might be worth:

PS. I mailed the contact as per the event entry page, if I hear back i will post the route info.

Really nice app that, makes it more "real" than just a normal picture

That route is quite a bit different to the mid-route from last year, which went along the other side of the dam too, but did note some one said that due to the drought they made some changes
