wolver Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Looks like the series has been reduced to only two events Can anyone confirm this? See they have added a trail run to the events (would have been nice if they were on the same day as the mtb), which i think is a step forwards but reducing the mtb series to only two events is two steps backwards in my opinion
milky4130 Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Definitely confirmed if you follow one of their posts\threads on their Facebook page someone asked the same question & they confirmed it.
Fattyboom Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 To make it worse: Ashburton has not extended their sponsorship of the National MTB Series. Its seems that Advendurance is struggling to get a new sponsor so we might not have these races!
Skubarra Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I assume the sponsorship has been reduced hence only 2 events? These type of events ridiculously expensive to host and can't be done without good sponsors. Interesting times, wonder how much of this is to do with tough economic times & how much with mtb culture changing where peeps would rather go and ride trails with mates than enter events.
wolver Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 That is really disappointing. I've enjoyed the 4 race series the last couple years. The entry numbers seemed to increase in 2017 which makes it surprising that they cut the events. Would be cool if they created some sort of "duathlon" series for those that do the mtb and trail run events as an incentive to do both.
wolver Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 P.S. Would also be nice if the organizers told us the actual reason for the change just so that we know. If it is the reduction in sponsorship, that's fine, but its nice to understand the real reasons for changes, rather than the speculation/rumours/hearsay that people come up with which I think just increases the frustration.
Jewbacca Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Dudes are demanding hey.... Why not say 'Sjoe, it's been a good run of some really cool (if badly marked) races for a few years, thanks guys. I hope it's nothing serious and that the organisers bounce back from this hit.' Truth is there are 3 MTB races to choose from almost every weekend in SA. Maybe NISSAN got tired of providing socks for everyone!
wolver Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 Haha..... I do sound quite demanding Was just having a bit of a moan and i'll get over it.
Hilton. Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 So it looks like WC is only getting 1 Trailseeker this year: Grabouw on 14 July. The Grabouw race also happens to be the SA XCM National Champs.

dev null Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 As long as they do not end up on the same days as the Spur School MTB League races, like last year.
Donovan Le Cok Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 14 July in Grabouw is going to be minus 100 degrees and under water... (if the rain comes this year)
babse Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 14th July in Grabouw has only just been announced as SA XCM champs. the other 2 confirmed races for WC is;Wellington (Bosman) - 18th August Hermanus (Hemel & Aarde) - 6th October AFAIK
milky4130 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Apologies for my incorrect post earlier. Seems as though babse is right.
