Has Garmin lost its edge?

Lol, I guess word play is not one of your strong points is it! Garminfish was not an insult, it was a play on words. Wahoo being a competitor of Garmin, but wahoofish defending Garmin with such religious fervor I though a name change would be appropriate.

Anyway, I don't even know why they named a fish after a GPS device, maybe because the fish finds its way around very easily and lives longer than 13 months!

OMG, NOW I get it, thanks for mansplaining it to me so nicely. I must have completely missed that... dammit, I really feel the fool now!

ps: If you perceived Wahoo's input as "defending Garmin with religious fervour" could we conversely say that you attacked them with " such religious fervour?" considering the colourful and healthy words you used?

Totally agree with you Dino, it is absolute bullsh*t that such an item should only last 13 months. It is an electronic item, nothing wears out. Imagine if every electronic item you purchased broke after 13 months, like your laptop, tv or hifi, the manufacturer would get such a bad name for quality they would go out of business. Irrespective of the warranty, would you have purchased the item if they had said that it will stop working in 13 months? Not a f*ck would you have. So they offer you a replacement unit at R2000. Big f*cken w@nk! Now all of a sudden your R6500 Garmin costs you R8500. Not such a competitive price any more.

Google has already killed the SatNav market and with stuff like this it looks like Garmin are committing suicide in the sports/fitness market too.  Not cool Garmin, up your game, you have ever increasing competition out there!

"healthy religious fervour" :P

Dude, chillax, Im just pulling your leg a little cause you said "healthy discussion" ....

The OPs problem has been solved, Garmin is still considered good by Hubland, so we should all be happy now....

They say that swearing for linguistic effect is a sign of intelligence, so I am just try to be smarterest than I really is.

Good morning Hubbers,

Sorry for being quiet over the past few days!

I have followed the discussion on the forum with close interest and truly appreciate the effort and level of insight which each of you have put into your responses.

I also appreciate and understand the arguments from both sides. This clearly is a simple issue on the face of it, that is actually quite complex when you get into the discussion a bit further. Each post raises a good point, and I agree with elements of the arguments from both sides.

As an update:

Based largely on the discussion and views on this post (thank you), I decided to accept the R2,000 repair quotation and went to Garmin yesterday, paid and am expecting to receive the replacement unit today.

A few hours after having paid, Garmin reached out to me to tell me that they had discussed my issue further and, in light of the context surrounding the issue and the unit being so close to within warranty, they have decided to replace it under warranty. They have committed to refund me what I paid yesterday in the coming days.

I must say, this wasn’t at all what I expected at the start of the day yesterday but was very well received and extremely appreciated.

Starting to understand why some of your refer to Bike Hub as “Garminland”. That is impressive.

Thanks again all, have an awesome week!

Dino

Good on you for deciding the R2000 offer is reasonable with all things considered and well done Garmin with once again going above and beyond to please a customer.

GARMIN is going to get plenty of traction from this thread. It cemented some of their loyal customers and might even have swayed some potential customers that were on the fence.

Difficult to know whether this thread played any role in switching their mind, which would set a dangerous precedent to have to follow in future. Even if it did sway their decision, they will probably never admit it.

Maybe the OP works for Garmin... go from bad boys to good boys and gain some more interested/loyal followers
