Wheels for road bike

Started doing some road races on my bike this year, and want to upgrade my wheels. Or rather, I want an extra set of wheels for racing. I feel a bit lost and don't know what tot look for. My budget is not enormous, any suggestion what a good wheelset would be up to 10000?

Not sure if I could get carbon for that amount? I don't mind taking alu because as far as I can't see that carbon ones are not really lighter? What is the advantage of carbon wheels? Just stiffness? (Very new to road biking and a bit dom with all the tech stuff). Wanted to buy the AC sprint 350 as they seem pretty light and are tubeless. But looks like they are out of stock everywhere I checked.

Those AC's are great wheels with all-round positive reviews from just about everyone. Added bonus is that they are tubeless ready. Tubeless road wheels are the future.

You really can't go wrong with them. I'd wait for someone to get stock.

American Classic are very underrated, budget friendly wheels.

Saw a thread that the company may be in jeopardy though which may be contributing to stock issues.

Yes i read that thread about AC having closed down and thus also figured that if no shops here have stock, I might just look at another brand because they will probably not get stock again.

Problem is, I don't live in SA, just in CT for the weekend so even if a shop or supplier in Jhb or so would still have the AC it would take too long to have them couriered to CT.

BUT I found a set of Zipp 302's for 17000. A bit above my budget but apparently a great deal. Thoughts?

For someone your weight, I wouldn't go anything deeper than a 40mm rim - most brands sell 38mm and that's what I would recommend.

For R10k, you can definitely get a set of carbon wheels and I would go for carbon for racing. In most cases, they are much stiffer, and lighter than the aluminium versions. Don't discount Chinese rims from reputable companies (Hongfu etc.)

Do yourself a favour, speak to David Marshall (here on the hub) and ask him about a custom wheelset. He will be able to build you a light and strong set for somewhere around your budget.

That's a great deal for awesome wheels.

At that price just make sure it's the real deal and there is nothing wrong with them
