Can cycling shorts liners(chamois) cause angioedema

This is a question for medical guys. I sometimes get angioedema over my sit bones and this may be(still to be tested) associated with one brand of cycling shorts. Can the different materials used in chamois cause an allergic reaction, leading to this condition?

I get something similar, but I have found that the issue is taken care of by washing the shorts in antiseptic soap and preventing formation by using surgical spirits on the area after washing. (This can result in minor screaming.)

I have come across some interesting allergies, such as people being allergic to plaster and/or latex.

So it's not impossible to imagine you having an allergic reaction to something in the material

Try another brand of chamois cream.

Personally I get a nasty reaction to "Mark II".

I used to get a nasty rash on exactly the same spot almost every ride that would turn into the most painful pimple afterwards. Needles to say 2 consecutive rides on a weekend used to be so painful.

I tried numerous saddle options and nothing really helped.

I started trying out Bennett's Baby Bum Creme recently and I couldn't be happier with the effects and results.

I found Sudo cream works better (for babies to by the way)

Discovered it after getting a sample in a goodie bag

They probably could but it's more likely to be a combination of chamois/saddle/bike fit.

Go for a proper bike and saddle fitment first

What this man said! I found I used to get what u though was a "pressure sore". Something like a saddle sore but there was no chafe and it felt like it was under the skin. Pricking with a needle (although I know not recommended) wouldn't provide any relief like with a saddle sore. I also found that it was predominantly on one side although I could also get it on both sides. Went for a bike fit and found that putting a spacer underneath the cleat on my right shoe has saved me a sore ass ever since.

Me too. And with a 1year old there is always a supply of it at home.

Unfortunately this condition in not treatable with topical creams. During the 70/80/90's, I would get saddle sores and found Fucidin was the best fixer. With Angioedema it seems the only thing that works is the orally taken cortisone schedule 4 Prednisone. Unfortunately, the angioedema does not happen every ride so i am not able to easily trace the root cause

I am trying the suggestion from one Hubber,of using extra rinsing cycles (4) during washing to get rid of any soap residue.
