Anyone got more info?

A man, believed to be in his 40s, was left critically injured this morning when he was knocked off his mountain bike at the Zulu and De Wet Road intersection in Northcliff, Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found a bakkie parked in the middle of the intersection. The body of a man in his 40s was found lying in front of the bakkie.

Paramedics immediately assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous serious injuries which left him in a critical condition.

Treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated, in an effort to stabilize the patient. Once treated, the man was transported to a private hospital in Johannesburg for urgent treatment.

The driver of the bakkie, fortunately, escaped injury.

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the exact cause of the collision.

you have to love the bias of our press reporting in SA.

"The driver of the bakkie, fortunately, escaped injury."

If it is where I think it is, it is a very high speed descent off the hill with all the priority to the vehicle coming down, ie the cyclist. I can only suppose that the bakkie came through the stop street.

Might be a relatively well known regular rider in the area, truly hope not

Pretty well known...

He is in ICU, in a bad way, but alive.

A block from my house... and I wonder why I'm reluctant to take my roadie out and do some sessions

Hope the rider pulls through, that's a super fast descent, if he was at full tilt could easily have been going 60 and cars just don't expect that, or respect that...

Strongs to the rider

That is a sh*t fast descent with dangerous cross roads. Huge risk to go down it fast.

Who is it dude, I haven’t seen anything on the local cycling chat groups.

Tilj van der Winkel. Jo’s husband. He has a few ops ahead of him and he is badly knocked around but he will be ok by the sounds of things.

Yup.- I know - got a few seconds to take off to be the Kom...

Only a couple but I will need to ride my road bike to have the gearing.

But I really don't like the intersections - lots of potential for a big smash.
