Why carry a valve and a valve core? seems redundant.

I carry :

Duct tape

Repair kit (snott plugs +tools)

Cable ties

29er tube

26er tube

Bandage

Steri wipes

Multi Tool (chainbreaker type)

Quicklink

Pump

Phone (never actually used this other than to assure wife we on way home and the constant pinging is driving me insane)

Money

Medical aid card (i have a spare)

Ice Number

+ whatever place im riding licence for the day

I might add a valve and core tool now and I do sometimes pack my Leatherman if its going to be a long MTB ride.

simply because I bought the valve insert first ....  :whistling:  spare valve was bought much later - hindsight is a nice thing

have a very nice "ICE card" with all my info in my wallet and in my car etc ... note to self - must add this on the bike !!

On the plugs, anyone using sahmurai swords and anything bad to say about them?

don't waste your money

you WILL loose it and your fancy plug tool

Other than the usual plugs, fork, worms Iv'e recent ditched the tyre patch for mushroom's after seen a demo where they recreated a nasty side wall cut and used this to seal it, a lot easier and more effective.

The other big thing is the actual tyre you run. Run a solid heavier tyre and you will have less issues and less need for extra tools.

This has served me well

Uhm I already carry one bottle in there for myself on longer rides or the hydration bladder (maybe a beer for the top once)

Duct tape is the best! Even when you have something to use as a sidewall patch getting it to stay in place isnt the easiest of things.

Duct tape also works for :

Keeping bandage in place

Strapping things to frame

Strapping rattling things down

Fixing broken things till down the mountain (use with cableties)

if your really short duct tape could be used as a bandage (really last measure rather tear up some clothing)

O btw tell everyone what u have with you and why you have it.

Last time I fell was so pissed i walked 2km then realised I could have repaired bike and ridden.

Maybe rephrase the question a little......

What do you carry and off that, what have you used in the past?

Plugs - Used once in a Trailseeker a couple of years ago.  Never since.

Spare valve - Used once at the Epic in 2009
Bomb(s) & adapter - Used plenty of times.
Small bottle of sealant on long rides - Never used it
Spare tube - Never used it
Duct tape - Never used it
Mini pump - Never used it

Multi tool - Used plenty of times.

Considering the mileage you do and your weekly TSS scores, I think nobody is going to question why you pack so much.

I generally have in 50km XC races I have 1 big Camelback insulated bottle with fluids and 1 tool bottle with:

tubeless repair kit with added patches.

1 - 2 Bombs and adapter.

REALLY small pump.

Tirelevers.

3 or 4 cable ties and strong elastic band.

Multi with included chain tool.

spare quick link.

When out longer I would sometimes have a camelback rogue with same tools in there and 2L fluids (3hr+ rides) and maybe I would have 1 tube and a needle with nylon thread. sometimes I have a small bundle of medical stuff in the camelback also.

I have cut a tyre badly before and then sewed the tyre together enough to fit the tube and still finish

I ALWAYS carry my phone and ICE ID band.

I have used everything in my bag with the exception of the Cableties and the quicklink (forgot i had it)

I dont use any of it regularly, only needed medical kit once and was glad to have something.

My first exterra I had to plug rear wheel 500m into the ride.......

I have used plugs on a few occasions where the stans would not seal, mini pump and a multitool. I have added a tube on the bike after I had a nice long walk back home once. I make sure to check sealant often. Adding stans through the valve with a syringe is quick and clean.

Something worth adding to my arsenal might be an extra valve and some CO2 bombs.
