Specialised tarmac comp vs felt f4

Hello Colinw...

What bike did you choose?

Ek het so jaar terug vir my n Felt F4 gekoop.

Net n beter carbon materiaal. So wat se dit?

Ek is baie happy met my felt. Ek het onlangs die mavic wiele afgehaal en n paar ordentlike eastons op gesit. Nou lyk ek nie net hot nie ek ry ook hot!

Dit is leka op die cervelos en speciliazed fietse weg te ry. Veral nadat n ou vir my gese het as jy n Felt afskeur is dit n raleigh...Clap

Ek dink meeste van die groot brands is goed. Gaan maar oor smaak en geld....

I also got Shimano Wheels' date=' but swapped them out when i bought them for a black set, I've only ridden the Shimano's for 200km if anyone wants them... I'll let them go.

Getting back to the topic, I researched the whole issue we're facing here. I chose the specialized. I looks awesome, I really liked the zerts, and the sloping top tube. And the fact that it stood out to me...

If Mere mortals cant tell the diff in frames, then that surely applies to 105/Ultegra too?

Plus the warranty on the specialized is better...

What warranty does the Felt have, I think the specialized has a lifetime warranty.

Have you decided yet? Please let us know. I am also in the market for a bike under 20K. Currently I have 3 on my short list:

1) Felt F4 with Garmin Edge 305 for R19k

2) Specialized Tarmac Comp for R18k

3) GT R Pro for R18k

The GT has the best specs of them all with a lifetime guarantee on the frame. But I am skeptic about the brand name, so my 1st choice so far is the Felt F4.

I would not touch that Tarmac with a barge pole. A lady friend of mine has one and it has started to delaminate. The agents say she crashed it but Iknow for a fact she did not. Theres not crash marks anyway. The bonding of the front triangle to the seat tube assembly was probably not properly cured. They won't warrnty the frame. Sh&T distributor, sh&t product.

Get the GT. Ominco's rep is very good and the product is more attractive.

Save yourself the hassle and get a brand who stands behind their product and does not look for excuses not to warranty a defective product.

I'd say go for a Cannondale. It will be an Aluminium CAAD9 but the performance will be better than cheap carbon.

I would go for the Felt with the better components... and besides Specialized is made by Merida anyway, so whats so special about it Wink

You get a better speced bike for the same price if not less

Your wheels - are they still available, might need them. Do you have the specs?

I would agree with every1 about the better componants.

You pay extra money coz it says specialized and im not sure that it can be justified, any bike that has a manufacture fault will usually show withing the first 12 months.  Im not sure what the guarantee is on Specialized vs Felt but i assume that if there is someting that is wrong with a bike and the dealer can see that its a manufacture fault they will replace the frame.

That is how you create a good name for your product and that im sure is what most businesses strive to achieve.

hi..

I would really go with the felt. It looks good and have good components.

Warranty, I agree that a bike will show its faults in the first -+3000km. Al 3 brands will replace a cracked frame.

Secound choice would be the specialized.

I did a test ride with a GT.. I didn't 'felt' it! haha it was not specialized enough! sorry for the pun...

The best option would be:  Buy a Eddy Merckx LXM frame (R13500)

Then go buy a 105 groupset from Solomons +- R3500. Now you just need wheels+ handelbar, stem + seat! Dammit the budget! But if you maybe already have some wheels this could work.

..sad but still not made any purchase.Cry The new dining room table, laminate flooring in my daughters room and .....endless other household & family requirments took preferance. I am still on my trusty 10 year old cannondale caad4 with who knows what crummy components. The extra work I put in while my mates zip around on their quiet cervelo's, treks etc keeps me believing that when I do eventually make the purchase the hills will feel like flats. Did kick ass on Krugersdorp hill Saturday but whatever !!.

A cousin of mine can get a great deal on a madone 4.5 (Shim 105). Very sexy bike and has more appeal than the GT or even the Felt. Can get it for 16k which is quite a saving., but t begs the question which is the better bike of the 4 now ???

Ditch the carbon frame get a light Alu frame, build a new bike with 105 / Ultegra, get some light wheels, a carbon bar, stem and post and you will have a superb and light bike for about R5000 less than a carbon bike and probably weighing the same.
