Tough ride, managed to finish this year after running out of batteries last year. Worst finish to any race I can remember. Slogging up a hill over graspolle and mud after 260km. WTF?

Well done to Carpet. On the ladies leaderboard.

Thanks Vetties.

It was tough as hell and like JCZA said those last 4km was so unasked for.

I had to walk almost 1km as I just couldnt ride it.

And I dont think I would be able to ride it on fresh legs either.

I also managed to miss the waterpoint that was supposed to be at 160km somewhere between niks en nerens (there was absolutely nothing except for one monster long hill).

Other than that it was a great ride.

But I finished and at this stage that is all that matters.

Initially that last hill also made me think this was uncalled for. But I remember riding in the direction of the finish and seeing this huge red neon light in the distance and I thought: Oh hell no! That the finish???

But, I got up there! I achieved what I wanted: I rode my first ultra in the dark nogal. No technicals. No crashes. And 10min quicker than what I felt was achievable. No hill was going to stand in my way.

Yes it was a b*tch...but what part of the 260km wasn't?

You know, this race, that last hill...it changed something in me I think...only time will tell.

Yolande Speedy!! Where has this former top mountainbiker been hiding the last 10 or so years? Welcome back

And on a hardtail! She’s legendary [emoji123]

She’s still around, together with old pro Paul Cordes. Doing more adventure type racing I believe. But when you’ve got it, you’ve got it.

My Garmin says it was outside the 260  :whistling:

It was brutal - I also walked a good 2km in the camping park.

But then 17+ hours, two crashes and a brilliant team mate and support crew later - it was finished.  Too soon to say whether I'd do it again-but my hubby is in it to win it next year! He's looking for his sense of humour, last seen about 30km after Loskop - if anyone picked it up??  :D

That's more or less where I lost mine as well... and picked up the knee strain that eventually forced me out at Stoffberg.

But I'll be back... unfinished business,
