Lanseria Airport to Boksburg?

Can anyone suggest a road route that would 'safely' get me from Lanseria airport to Boksburg, essentially from the west to the east of JHB? I don't know JHB well enough to know which arterial routes to favour or avoid.....

I'd prefer to do this on my road bike but at a push a gravel bike could be pulled into service......

TIA

Sjoe so many options. I know of plenty routes but only really driven them so not sure about riding. I would probably head down cedar, onto witkoppen then somewhere head through woodmead/wendywood till I get to marlboro drive. Then head through linbro park(there are lots of new roads in the area which I ride often) then through greenstone. From there, depending which side of boksburg I would head through elandsfontein and witfield area.

Where in boksburg you want to end up?

Take your gravel bike, take cedar to witkoppen, go north towards rivonia and jump onto the spruit route all the way to melville koppies. From there go past the Zoo and over the M1 by Killarney. Go through houghton and linksfield, take Civin road toward Gilloolies go under the eastern bypass and carry on past glen dower with boeing rd until you get edenvale road. Turn south and ride until you get main reef which will take you into boksburg.

Use the gravel bike as some of those roads are very busy so you can jump on the curb if you have to.

I drove this route by car on a daily basis for many years, albeit also many years ago.

Unless you planning to cycle it early on the weekend when the traffic is quieter I would not recommend it

I know which routes I would try but don’t know all the names and places.... sorry but I’m sure someone here will know the safest bestest way ????

Define 'safely'... I don't believe this exists on our public roads anymore. But I would go through edenvale / greenstone as said above. Would ride the cross bike anyway as to hop a kerb or 2 as needed.

But I would rather not attempt this route.

I would suggest gravel bike that you can do some pavement stuff when needed

There are some dodgy areas to transverse depending on time of day , sunninghill,  Marlboro drive

As a rule all of these are better earlier on weekend mornings

Ok not too far from the airport. All routes above are probably more or less the same wrt safety and road condition. Is this a daily commute? It's probably like a 50km ride.

I would east to Kyalami just north of 4 Ways, Midrand, Isando  (there is a route just north of  Modders), up the hill and then you are just about there.

Traffic is going to be hectic all the way, you will need 360 deg vision and don't expect anyone to obey any conventions or road rules or laws.

Not a daily commute but just wanted to ride there instead of driving, but the various views expressed have convinced me of what I suspected.....not a great idea in terms of safety!

Thanks to all!
