I have actually already booked the accommodation, will enter next and hoping discovery flight booster will pull through for the flight :)

FLight booster is only for Kulula the last i checked and to PE only British airways flies there but you do get an initial % discount. well that is what happened in my case, not sure of the new vitality system as i haven't done any research.

Scott beat me to it - double post

“With the race growing in popularity, we have developed an improved bike course which will allow more space on the road for you to have the best racing experience.

The new bike course takes you out on two laps of 90 km, completing the 2018 Isuzu IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship course in reverse, which includes the recently resurfaced road.

The route starts along the coast at Marine Drive, delivering sweeping views of the ocean and the rugged coastline, before heading towards the breath-taking Maitlands.

You will enjoy protection from the easterly wind as you head through the suburbs of Port Elizabeth on this smooth, faster bike course.”

After this years terrible ride i had, my forearms will be grateful for the smooth tar and extra wind protection even if its just a little (Two laps of 13.6km)

However this will make traffic a nightmare, luckily our accomodation is inside this boxed off area. GF will be able to watch out the hotel window and the the riders come past the entire day.

Is the same cycle route that was used for 70.3 Worlds this year, just being a double lap.... and yes there are some serious sneaky hills further down the course passed Seaview, especially after the turn-around point.

I found it tougher than the usual IMSA route.

EDIT: I see from looking at the map, it will be a clockwise cycle which was the opposite to the 70.3WC

Yip, the world championship course in reverse.

By going through the town and by adding the extra kilometres after the old turnaround they have added a fair bit more climbing to the route, My one (reversed) lap of this new course recorded 1028 of ascent while my two laps of the full IM route in 2017 showed only 918m. I can't see this course being faster at all. But having said that it makes more of the scenic coastal roads and the descents are pretty exciting. I'm still waiting to see if I can be there in April,  if can go I'll be looking forward to this route. I just wont be expecting a PB.

Can’t see the route but iirc this is going back to most of the course that was the bike leg for 2014 and 2015. I had around 1800 meters of climb over the day for this course. And yes it def is a lot tougher for us fatties. At one point this was considered one of the toughest full IM courses in the world, then they went to the course for 2016 to 2018 which I much preferred.

This new course will take its toll not only on the bike but also run,

But then it’s ironman hey, relish it.

haha, mebbe 2020...

Now that I can see the course its not the complete course as per 2015, it seems the turnaround is close to the camp ground after the corner in maitlands, there are a couple of hills but not too many.

It will add some metres climbing but not a lot, should be good to do and will certainly claw back some time coming back into town. In 2015 the route was you ride up that section and turn right into old sea view road past kaga kama(sp) then come down past maitlands and begin that haul back into town. That was 1800 odd metres.

This will add a little but wont be as much imho.
