Plenty of time to save up for the rest of the storm trooper outfit to race in!!  :whistling:

Hope the stress fracture heals soon so that you can start your training....

Thanks buds,

I'll be seeing the specialist next wednesday and hoping she has some good news for me.

So for the experienced guys here, when is it to close to race day to do a 70.3?

The reason i ask is that i see SA champs (not that i will be there) is two weeks prior on the 24th of March and DBNUltra is a month prior on the 3rd of March.

With my moonboot and then restarting slowly for the run I'm considering cancelling my JHBUltra entry and asking them to swap it for a DBN one instead, but will that be to close with the amount of tapering and recovery time required so close to PE?

PE is my MAIN event for the next 8month.

I remember reading once before that 1 month out is the perfect timing.

I'm not sure if you're supposed to 'race' race it, more of a final walk-through or fine-tune for your transitions and nutrition.

Durban Ultra will be a great primer for IM, as most of the hard (long) yards would have been covered already. Would just go and race it and work on things for IM and no red mist stuff. Recovery week after that and then 1 week of more Intensity training and fine tuning and then a 10 day taper.

  • 4 weeks later...

Pulled the plug on next year  :(

Going to aim for a long trail run instead of IM, probably around the same time of year.

We'll be sure to be in a TV deadzone on raceday otherwise the FOMO will kick ass.

Historically, what time of year do I need to start to worry about entries being sold out?

Would like to enter ASAP, just a rough time of year ito cash flow lol

Nah, you dont have to worry, entries are normally available up to very close to the closing date (Talking about Ironman PE, the 70.3 events have sold out quite quickly in some previous years) You do however get discount for entering early

Only thing, you might struggle to find affordable flights and accommodation close to the start venue if you wait too long.
