Installing tubeless tyres. Valve hole question

Hi I have Alex md 19 rims and want to go tubeless. The thing is though the rims have a large valve hole for a standard valve but the tubeless conversation kit I’m looking at has presta valves. I’m concerned that they will just pop out the rim as the base is too small. Do you get larger tubeless valves or should I just add more rim tape and hope? Thabks for any advice!

Can you not just get rimstrips and a car valve?

Go old school tubeless.

Apply a base of 3M fibre tape or even duct tape.

find a 26er or 650b tube with Schrader valve.

fit the tube to the rim.

slit it down the middle on the top side so it opens up on the rim

trim the excess side so you end up with a home made rim strip.

fit the tyre and apply sealant.

air up and shake well.

It may take a you few tries to get the hm rim strip just right but short of buying new rims with presta valve fittings this is one cost effective option I can think of.

With some Tubeless valves you will get a "grommet" for extra support, but just double up the rim tape and use the valve to pierce the tape so as not to make the hole any bigger, the slime will do the rest

Fixed. You want a smaller tube, and a 24" works well and stretches out perfectly. You don't want folds under the tyre bead.

I bought the metal type valves from Tiger wheel, and they worked perfectly. Did notice on installation, I had to loosen them a bit, for the tire to fit between the valve and the rim cause they were a bit wide. Then later on bought Schrader valves when I went to the US.

Now using presta after I switched bikes.

The old school setup as mentioned on here also works great. I used that at first before using the car valves. The seal with the 24 inch tube and the tire was so good, managed to seat it with a standard floor pump.

Can I suggest using Gorilla tape from Builders. It's the best!

Until you use proper tubeless tape, that is not stans.

Honestly, I used to think that Gorilla was the best, but a few pesky failures due to the way it interacts with the valve have got me thinking otherwise.

It'll do well, but isn't better than the proper stuff.

You're learning. Good.

Until you have a hardegat giant rim which refuses to take any "proper" rim tape including Stans.

Nothing except gorilla tape sticks, despite scrubbing, scoring and even sanding

I find stans to be VERY temperamental. Really doesn't like blasted surfaces at all. Will always use gorilla over stans, but proper tape over gorilla.
