With around 800m of climbing the route can be considered as fairly easy and non-technical.

as per website, sounds like a pansie funride.

Think that they were from the beginning transparent on the goal for this year that they are targeting Intermediary and beginner riders.

Not sure what prompted them to drop the technical routes this year, but assume it was not an easy decision to make, but glad there is still a ride that can grow the sport and activity.

Depends on the organiser at the time. First Origin we got nothing, not even discount. 3rd on my buddy got 2 free entries.

The 50km as made use of our farm form the past 3 years but even if offered we would not take discount or free entries as we are appreciate the work Dirtopia and their team does all year round to provide people with some of the best trails around.

Sunday will be a lot of fun, weather will be cool but not wet. It's gonna be a good one!

Geez I realize a lot of the inputs for a great mtb race is done for love and nothing else, but surely giving each landowner a couple of entries buys plenty of goodwill relatively cheaply??

I don't know what kind of farm you have, but are they accommodating in terms of putting up your own banners and giving you a punt (if you are for example a wine farm and there's some value in putting that "Spier" logo up everywhere and getting some airtime)?  Basically like the event sponsors get to do.

Agree re Dirtopia and the good work they do, if it weren't for their races some of the trails I use wouldn't ever be maintained.

I think they are trying to get the flat route riding crowd to move up and do a route that is slightly more fun and technical, but not as technical and tough as the older 42 and 60km routes.

Then next year re-introduce those routes and maybe have more people riding those routes.

I rode the 50km flat route the year we went over the Wannabee routes and it was very muddy and boring. Did not do the flat one after that. Not for me.

Last year I was out because of busted knee, and the year before that did the 30km flat one with my youngest son.

It will be cool - 0828074185

Capacity reached, so no late entries available at registration (just checked with organisors).  Are you looking for a 50km entry, Spekatrix?  I'm also in the market for an entry, but for the 22km.

This is the first ever ride I will be doing that covers some parts of our family farm.

I think the first ever ride to do that was the initial "origin of trails" but seeing as back then they did not offer a comp or discount to land owners it has put a permanent black cross behind Origin of Trails for me. For ever.

Stellenbosch "Die Burger" MTB on the other hand has been a far more pleasant affair and having been invited to the 75km a few times, and just the awesome vibe any Dirtopia ride has in general - this will be such a treat for me personally.

Bring it on

Your whole family better be there to cheer you on, they actually have no excuse!

I raised the issue on FB on why the shorter routes (I enjoyed the 75km so much last year) and they were kind to give a detailed explanation regarding the lack of sponsorship, these things actually cost a lot to organise and they didn't want to zig zag along a few farms just to have long distances. I am glad to hear entries are sold out, cos they require the support.

Meurant lost a lot of money with the fires of 2 and 3 years ago that ravaged their trails, especially the Simonsberg trails. The result was a loss in racing numbers. They need our support to get back onto their feet again.
