I have been riding bikes with front derailleurs for 34 years. I have never had problem with a front derailleur, ever. On MTB bikes in the mud in Stellies between Easter weekend and 1 November, over the period 2000-2010, excluding El Nino periods and unseasonally warm afternoons, or mornings in which frost events have occurred, or mornings after a John Deere special at the Dros, I have never had an issue

If you had 1x you'd have had less than no issues.

It seems like the vast majority of riders calling for 2 x are in JHB?

just cause we live in GP doesn't mean we don't go places. The amount of times I have hit 55KPh+ on a descent in Sabie Classic or Forest 2 Falls. Pretty much happenes every time I ride a race in the lowveld. And then again with the 550% range my 2x affords me I can still climb with the best of them when the terrain calls for it.

attachicon.gifNorwid.jpgI wonder when you derailieur guys catch up with my 1x14 . might take another 5years ???

Sorry I see from your pic it is a hub based 1 x 14 ... but you still rocking 26'er tyres and a saddle bag, so this makes your advanced rather maintenance free drive train obsolete :P

In a video recently released by Clint Gibbs he suggests Simano are coming out with a 14-speed cassette...but that just seems ridiculous and iirc, it was an April fools article a couple years back

He mentions it around the 35 sec mark...maybe jokes on him

I hit 50 on my 1x 10 hard tail almost every ride around Constantia. And the air is so much denser down here too. So weh!

I have hit 55+km descending on a SS :P

Seriously though ... have you given a 1 x 12 with a larger chain ring a spin yet ... something as simple as the 10t on the cassette is a rather decent boost over a 11t cog on a "std" cassette. Take a look at gear calcs for more reference.

You know I am mostly pulling your leg here ......

yeah no don't worry no body is getting worked up here. ???? I did give a an eagle equipped bike a spin with a 32t ring a spin a little while ago. I found it.... Alright I guess. Definitely ridable if that's your thing. But I found the gaps between gears a bit large. I like getting into and staying in a rhythm so I find narrower cassettes with the additional range offset by the extra ring on the front helps maintain that rhythm for me.

Not apposed to 1x its just not for me. I'm just apposed to manufacturers FORCING us in this direction. I don't care if in 5 years time I need to Frankenstein my bike with old parts to get my front gears back. But I'll do it. ????????????

that 1 x 12 may have been more up your alley with a 36t chain ring

Just as long as we get a 2x option I am happy!

Tested this

11spd XTR 2x11 crankset works perfectly with eagle chain and cassette and rear mech #justsaying

my frame compensates for the 26" tried 29 but i was truing my wheels basically every 30 minutes

and where else would i go with my beauty case ? under the saddle works for me :whistling:
