Also add an additional 2 days, 5 hours and 26 minutes if you tried to rub one out with the busted wrist/arm.

Eish guys, I think we often forget when we respond that there's a person on the other end of these posts. Was really just looking for a little insight into experiences with sprained wrists and associated healing times.

Fair enough, but how long is a piece of string, really?

Yeah I know what you mean - it really isn't something one can give an exact answer to. I think I was more trying to see if taking a few months for it to heal isn't too out of the ordinary based on what you guys have perhaps experienced? Think I'm going on almost 3 months but from what I understand, that isn't too out of the ordinary for tendons and ligaments to take that long to heal?

How bad was the injury?

If its been a while since the injury and it still isn't better might be worth a trip to your GP, just to make sure something isn't fractured.

healing time would vary person to person, lots of influencing factors, age, severity, structures involved etc.

If bad enough you might need a brace when you start riding again?

If its been that long and still isn't right, I strongly recommend you go see someone.

Could be a case of needing more time, but could also be something more serious which might need further treatment? physio, surgery?

Thankfully it wasn't fractured - had xray's done and nothing showed up (including the scaphoid). The GP unfortunately also didn't really give any estimate on how long it will take to heal. I was also thinking that when I do start riding, using the brace might not be a bad idea? The tricky part at the moment is just trying to get this thing to a point where I am actually able to ride, which still seems like a good few weeks away at the very least! Trying to see if this is now something I should be seeing an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hands about, or just to give it some more time based on the original xray's not showing any breaks (which is what's so frustrating at the moment!)?

I sprained both my wrists in a work related incident. At that stage I only did road riding, but even then it took a good few months before I was pain free whilst riding.

I rode with wrist straps similar to these, for at least six months after my incident.

Bought mine from Dischem. You can stil wear gloves with these, and they are easily adjusted while on the bike.

The problem is that if you don't let it heal up properly it is easily injured again.

^^^^ THIS.... facing exactly this right now.

also, it's impossible for us here in cyberspace to give an estimate... heck, show it to the doc, let them examine it and it's still a best guess and your actual healing time may vary.

either way, let it heal properly, don't push it and get going again when ready.

Thanks, I'll definitely get one of these when I start riding again! Happy (in a weird way) to see you also mentioned it took you months to heal because that means mine also taking a few months might not be too much cause for concern just yet.

Tell me about it - I tried to ride about a week after the crash and about 3 weeks later I drilled 16 holes into a concrete wall...needless to say both of these things set me back but also taught me a valuable lesson!
