and only this.

It seems like every joe and his uncle are starting to offer bike tours from single day to multi day excursions. obviously the barrier to entry is quite small, especially if clients bring own bikes. legislation probably not there and WC government in particular seem very happy to promote it.

I wonder how big the market really is?

How many people as local cyclists would sign up for something like this, or would you rather go it alone?

I think it's a massive market - especially in the WC. I think the real money is in providing guided trips for tourists on e-bikes. Cost of getting such a business up and running is big - but if you get your marketing spot on there is lots of money to be made.

This is great, I don't see the issue if "every joe and his uncle" starts bike touring offerings.

Should also create a competitive market and stop people from getting ripped off by the only 10 offering the tours.

What really should stop, is "every joe and his uncle"  doing a race report of his 9th place in Cat3 at Killarney.

Hi All

Myself and a few friends (and my friend Joe and his uncle) are doing a 'slack-packing' tour to Vredefort Koepel from Vereeniging and back on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of June. We plan to sleep over in a self catering lodge so only cycling spares and kit is required to be packed.

Day 1 will be about 160 km with 70% gravel road.

Day 2 will be about 130 km with 60% gravel road.

We are fairly fit but will plan to utilize the full days to cycle.

Anyone keen to join are very welcome, as this would be a nice introduction to touring.

Cheers

Sounds great what kind of costs are involved and how many can the tour accommodate

The accommodation is about R400 per person on a lodge next to the Vaal river, and we would need another R300 for snacks, lunch and supper.

This may be more of a long distance group ride than organized tour, but there is still space for another 5 riders.
