So heres the update... He is now claiming that he has paid R530 for transport and truing of the wheels so far (which i know is nonsense) and that he wont return the wheels until i pay him that. The guy who trued the (one) wheel actually phoned me after seeing this thread, and i asked him about the costs and confirmed he is lying. Also only trued one wheel. Also bearing in mind that he agreed from the very start to cover all costs, and that everything he paid was his own decision. The guy who trued the wheel did confirm the small bump in the wheel as mark is saying, but he says its completely exaggerated and that the wheel is absolutely usable.

This is where things gets interesting. Mark loves to use excuses to turn things onto me. Such as always keeping me blocked on whatsapp at all times apart from the few seconds every few days where he messages me and then blocks me again. His excuse for this is that i am rude and that i use abusive language.

When we were still on friendly terms before i realised that hes a scammer he told me many times that he did not worry about the fact that i tried to scam him when i told him i wasnt aware of the bump in the wheel. We agreed that i was obviously not trying to hide something since i sent it without any payment, something noone would do who was trying to rip someone off. This has all changed apparently because now he says i was trying to scam him by sending him the defective wheel.

I got these wheels with the intention of relacing them to hubs that will work on my bike (not a lefty), but i never found affordable 24 hole hubs, i was really clueless about hubs back then and didnt know its not a common standard. He says im lying about that too, but if you go look at my posts on bikehub you'll see me looking for wheel builders back in march, and i mentioned that i gave up on looking for hubs.

It looks like he is now gonna try and sue me for defamation because of this thread???? he is super upset about it. He says it "wont go unpunished". Should i be worried? Even says hes giving the wheels to the SAPS for evidence.

Ill send the screenshots, just bear in mind hes blatantly lying about quite a few of his "facts".

I've considered paying the 530 for school fees but i really feel like he still wont send the wheels even if i pay his ransom.

I might need a few people's statements or testimonials or whatever you call it of this guy if it really turns into a court case.. But with his case compared to mine I feel like i dont even need a lawyer???? dont know what he wants to go on

Thanks man, but hes the type of guy that will shut the door in your face and go to sleep. Dont know if going down to durbs will be worth it.. And to think i used to visit my rents every holiday in ballito till last year.. Right where he stays. They moved a few months ago though

I've been following the thread from the start and things seem to be escalating now. I just want to ask why you couldn't arrange with cyclelab again to have him drop the wheels off there with them only sending it upon you paying the R350 he's claiming for "fixing" the wheels. They release the wheels once you send proof of payment to both him and cyclelab, at least you get the wheels back this way without going through further hassles.

 

No one will probably buy or sell to him in any case as this thread will hopefully show up if you search his number or name.

Ai Jaco, sorry to hear about your unfortunate dealings. You and I had a good transaction but I feared you were a little bit too trusting of people.

 

If I can drop my 2cents:

 

This Mark character sounds like a real self righteous chop and you were too trusting in your dealings with him. He is justifying all his actions in his head and has already convinced himself that he is the victim here, so be sure he is going to fight you with that conviction to prove a point to you.

 

Going out on a limb here, but I doubt he went out to scam you from the start. He just got himself in a position where he held all the cards(wheels) and thus you were left with no bargaining power.

 

He seems to be the kind of guy that will milk you dry, either by supplementary payments or through the legal route, his lawyer is probably a buddy that won't charge him . I honestly can't see how this ends peacefully.

 

Best to cut your losses and get the wheels back in your possession if possible, or just give him the wheels for a discounted price and cut your losses. If you ever ride them again they will just remind you of this dealing. Who knows, maybe Karma will do her part and these wheels will cause him an unfortunate insident where something long and sharp gets lodged somewhere where the sun don't shine normally.

 

Going to follow this just to see how it is resolved.

Yes, true. I will try approach it like that when he unblocks me again some day, cut the losses and pay the fees he said he will pay. Will speak to the guy who trued the wheel and to cycle lab to find the true cost though. And to the guy at cycle lab who is apparently his long time buddy (but couldn't charge him less than 350 for truing apparently), I remember his name. And make very sure ill get the wheels if i do pay. But he'll probably say the wheels are with the police now and that the "defamation" has changed things now. Hey man. Yup, its transactions like ours that eventually led me into this situation (was gonna sooner or later looking back). Most hubbers, like you, are just so good to deal with and i felt like scammers stayed on olx and were always easy to tell (99% are). But you're right, like i said at the start, this guy is unusual. Hes not a typical scammer, but hes dodgy as hell regardless. The stories ive heard up to now just confirm everything ive experienced with him. I dont doubt that some deals go smoothly with him, but if theres the smallest chance or gap for him to screw you over, he'll take it. Guaranteed this guys mom dropped him as a kid. And i dont know how he has gotten away with these little things all his life. Would like to meet him one day

Just call the police to recolan your stolen property...

 

But in all honesty, this guy is clearly a total and utter scumbag... As said above, he's clearly convinced he's done nothing wrong.... Sometime, Karma will catch him...

 

I say, find out proper costs or ask him for copies of receipts, pay whatever, and get them back... You could ask a shop or a Durban hubber to hold them as an intermediate assistant, and go from there.

 

Legal, go for it if it costs you nothing, otherwise chalk it up to schoolfees and write it off.. If you really wanna try lawers letters, etc, I'm sure my wife will gladly assist with any and all (admitted attorney), we're in Somerset west if you want a chat about it. Small claims will be great as there is no legal representation and you have some good evidence re the whole matter, so worthwhile if you really wanna stick it to him..

 

Wanna be really spiteful? Have him drop the wheels as an intermediate and ask them to destroy the wheels.. Don't pay him, laugh it off, and accept the loss... He has no agreement from you that you would cover cost of repairs etc, so if you really wanna be that spiteful...

 

Anyway, get in touch for legal assistance if you still want to go that route...

 

Good luck man... Don't lose too much sleep over it... The wheel does turn, at different speeds, sure, but it does turn... Even if the wheel isn't true...

Funny enough, he’s got the audacity to use your naivety to con you further with his claims of expenses.

There’s no talking and sound reasoning that will resolve this. He’s doing this in the hopes that you’ll just get tired and give up, and scare you off with his so-called defamation claims. Any communication from your side is futile.

 

Cut your losses or take action. I would prefer you do the latter.

Couldn't agree more. Lay a charge/civil case or do nothing. Anything in between is a waste of time and effort because in two months you will still be posting Whatsapp screenshots.
