Garmin Abnormal Heart Rate Alert

Recommended Posts

So the latest firmware update for my watch includes a setting for abnormal heart rate.

"An abnormal heart rate will be detected if your heart rate exceeds the entered threshold for an extended period of time while sedentary"

Any idea on what that threshold HR should be?

Have you done a lactate threshold heart rate test? https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/joe-friel-s-quick-guide-to-setting-zones/

Edit: which watch as some of them have a guided set test you can do to record your lactate threshold.

You guys all obviously missed this bit...

Also, I have no idea, I'd guess a bit higher than your average heart rate while walking around so like maybe 60-65% of max?

Perhaps you should read it again :)

I hear you, and you may be right, but I don't think that's what they are asking... one very simple reason being, very few people would know the answer, making the feature pretty worthless.

After all, we're not cardiologists - we're hubbers and it's Friday

An app I use for Apple Watch does the same. It warns you if you get a heart rate over 110 when not doing any activity. Happened to me twice in December last year when I was fat and lazy. Since I started training again hasn’t happened again

Given the bolded bit, why are you being so reasonable?  :cursing:

Thanks, seems the default on the Garmin is 100, so will leave it on that for now

From reading threads online, seems to relate to your resting HR and if it drops below that for a significant period of time then it will give some sort of alarm that you might be having cardiac failure.... am sure you will notice it when awake, but might help you from missing your early morning ride if happens whilst sleeping !!  :whistling:

To detect this it seems;

Tachycardia means that your heart is beating too fast. For example, a normal heart beats 60 to 100 times per minute in adults. Tachycardia is any resting heart rate over 100 beats per minute (BPM).
