I am 1,76m .... so you KNOW where I am at now !

I do believe the EX5 is a GOOD bike !  I ENJOY it !  But sadly I did not know any better at the time, and actually thought a TREK dealership would make sure I was sold the correct size bike .... lesson learnt ....

At least a somebody 4cm shorter than me is about to buy a year old TREK, with new rims and a new Eagle GX drive train ...

Those few cm means we cant get the saddle back far enough, and my knees are too far forward over the crank and thus I cant use the full pedal stroke ... or something like that ...

Thru should have gone for a 19.5 instead. It would fit you a lot better

There is a big difference between 940 and 950 but not so long ago 940 was selling for 50 Large and 950 was selling for 40 Large (both overpriced).

Popped in at King Cycles today in Worcester, after the SPUR schools leage event.

R50k bike for R36k ....

And it fits me properly ....

It was their last model.  I know Geko has ONE unit left (which has been partially stripped for spares  ), a few units at Bike Addict at R37k.

Only "pity"  (dont want to use the word "regret") ..... proper Cape storm on Sunday, and I fly away for a business trip on Monday .... MAN, I am itching to do more than circle the driveway !  :w00t:

Very blerrie nice, what size did you decide on, I'm also 1760mm tall and I have a Merida TFS 500 hardtail in M 17" whereas the Merida full suspension 9-600 was a L 19".

I bought the large.

1,76m is on the cut between the M and the L .... on the Scott bike size chart

Spoke to a number of friends with a LOT more experience than I have, one of them was in the shop with me as well, seems the L fits me with room for adjustments.  We made sure the base of the dropper post can go low enough for my leg length, and my reach feels perfect with the saddle in the middle of its rails.

I will do a few rides, then go back for a bike-fit to fine tune the setup.

Daai 940 is kief.

A mate of mine got one, and his confidence in technical terrain went up by at least 30%.

He is also scared of taking his hands off the bars (doesn't even ride with a bottle,) and also compulsively switches his suspension between the settings, so like you, the bike suits him. And he is having fun on it every time he rides. And that is winning.

I'm not sure whether your fuel was a 6fiddyB, but if it's a 9er, I'd swap the wheels before selling the trek. I recall you built some awesome wheels for that bike. If they are the same size, id keep the best wheels on the new bike.

The Trek is a 29er.  The NEW wheels, and the new Eagle GX set goes with the Trek .... somebody is going to buy a VERY nice dual suspension bike - somebody under 1,72m ...

Think it is a good time to pick up the 2017 / 2018 Scotts as they seem to be discounted quiet nicely at the moment.

Congratulations, awesome bike! I have a 2017 Spark 930 which is a similar yellow colour on a 1x11 setup, its been a great bike for me. I've only 'upgraded' one thing, that syncros saddle is pure pain. Simple upgrade though, love everything else, geometry, tires, remote lock-out and dropper - it all just works so well as a package. Great bike, wishing you many happy miles!

Was in a lbs yesterday morning where the owner was doing a deal for a customer on a 920....

R47K down from R60k.

Now if a 950 is R37k I'll live on deep fried cockroaches and camel piss to stretch to the 920 @ R47K......

would be interested to know the real feel benefits of a carbon vs light alu, how much does the stiffness and lets say 1kg extra carry for a rider not racing for podium

In my personal experience the 1kg frame weight makes very little difference on a MTB especially a mixed use bike like the Spark. Tires, geometry, gearing and wheelset make a much bigger difference in that order for me. It depends also on the type of riding you do. Carbon is more about the sexiness, the frame physically looks smoother and sleeker and if you don't have a carbon frame you always wonder (damn the marketing guys) ... but I've got friends who've broken carbon frames on falls in different ways several times, never seen that happen with alu. The carbon repair guys are really good though. If you are on a limited/sane/family budget - alu is a no-brainier, its honestly JUST AS GOOD for us 'average' guys on a MTB and it takes a hit better imho, stick with alu.

On the road-bike side there I think a carbon 'upgrade' is more worthwhile. I find it stiffer and and smoother overall, the difference in feel is more noticeable vs. MTB where your moving around all the time.
