Onrus Hermanus ?

5km cycle to Eudia cycles, which is also the start of the Hermanus trails.

DO remember the gate code if you want to do the longer trail ...

Pity most of the routes along the sea are not cycle friendly ....

Think it’s Onrus, Atlantic Road.

These sound like MTB routes? Looking for road routes, or gravel.

Aaaaaa....

JIP, Hermanus trails are very much MTB trails.  Actually the last stage of the W2W race.  A true bucket list item for all cyclists.

But if ever you are in Hermanus, the Hemel and Aarde valley has a nice stretch of tar to Caledon.  And if you are up for gravel grinding, you can take the turn onto the gravel road linking back to the Karwyderskraal pad, then tar back to Hermanus.

Is the Onrus-Caledon road via Shaws all tar these days? Been a number of years since I've been up there and it used to be gravel?

When I was going through that awkward pubescent phase where you transition between golf and real cycling, I too mountain biked a bit. Did the W2W and that part was the best of the 3 days to me.

Just been there on holiday for a week (no riding though). Hope the wind has died down or all you’ll need to do is go outside on your rollers and you’ll think you doing 100km/h !!

We did some good driving around the area. To be honest, I find the roads pretty narrow and not bicycle friendly. Drivers seemed to be pretty conservative but these long open narrow rides lead to concentration issues. So be careful out there.

They started tarring it about 6 years ago, rerouting long section and creating a VERY nice road.  And then just before tarring it the company went bankrupt .... hard rain caused immense damage to the new road !

Took almost a year before the next company was appointed.  The complete retarring finished about 18 months back, maybe a bit more.

YES, the first 7 km is very narrow !  The new section much more bike friendly.

Took your adice, ride about 15km up the Hemel road from the turn, turned around at some farm, Anorexia or something of the sort. A few sharp little pinches up there!

That climb up to the towers is really cool, not sure why that wasn’t recommend. Have incorporated into two rides already.

One ride that I recommend that you DONT do is from Onrus to Stanford. Thought it would be a good idea to ride there and meet the family for breakfast. Won’t make that mistake again! That road is ***!

Agreed. I've never seen a roadie on that stretch. A few guys on mtb's for sure...

Beautiful gravel road just outside of Stanford turning off to Papiesvlei side. Can do a circular route from Stanford and back that ads up to about 80km.
