Also have a CWC stand, does the job just fine for me.

Been collecting tools as I require, Icetoolz are cheap and of a fair quality. Some essentials besides a set of Allen keys, and spanners.

Crank puller

Cassette tool (best with a centring pin)

Chain whip

BB tool

Come spanner set

4 sided spoke key

Chain tool

Other than a chain whip and a cassette tool, you just need a set of hex wrenches and a torque wrench. You can get the same (or better) quality tools for a lot less money if they aren't 'bicycle specific' ;)

Add to your list a pack of latex / surgical gloves. Wearing these while working on the bike means you can slip them off if you need to take a call, see to the kids or wife and allows you to open the fridge with clean hands when you get a beer or coldrink to keep you "hydrated" while building your bike. These are typically around R100 for a box from Diskem.

I find the nitrile gloves to be much better than latex. far more tear and puncture resistant and they don't melt when you get parafin on them like the latex ones. Also pretty cheap in bulk at Dischem.

Been building and servicing my own bikes for many years.

Yep tools are very important, but quite honestly I got frustrated by not having a proper stand. I got the Park Tool stand and it is amazing. The head rotation clamp is so good that I can rotate the bike to point upward when I am cleaning and assembling the bottom pivots. Just makes life so much easier. Not sure if the CWC stand can do that, but to me that was one of the biggest bonuses.

Flip you are right, used latex before and am using nitrile now!

I also keep a pair in my commuter bag for when you need to fix someone bike or help with a puncture where one has to handle a dirty chain.

I found the clamp type stands work much better for MTBs and metal-framed road bikes. I'm really hesitant to clamp my carbon road bikes in it (also the top tubes don't seem to have a uniform cross-section so it always ended up being loose which makes working on it a bit more of a struggle). This is with a park Tool PCS-10.

Got a Park Tool PRS-22 for the carbon bikes and it works a treat. Only downside being that you can't wash under the BB with the bike on the stand.
