Sunrace 12spd VS NX eagle

I'm assuming the Rd must have a clutch and if so what is it like and does it have that look in the down position that some Sram Rd have?

they call it a stabilizer... But it appears to be a one way friction clutch.. It works! I don't quite know what you mean regarding the sram comparison as quite frankly this is the first clutch type derailer I've installed or ridden, all my other bikes have been hacked into 1x..from what I can tell, the clutch mechanism works, has an on/off switch, and that's all I can tell you right now... Will post some pics in the morning.

Why did you not fit gripshift?

Didn't know they came in 12s thanks for suggesting, thats what we have done and my dad is smiling.

Thanks

For those who may be interested, some pics of the installed bits...

Test ride was brilliant, LOVE the spacing, so much better than the ten speed. I may end up running a 34, as 36 rings seem hard to come by in direct mount.

The clutch works great, and skylark, your question bothered me and so I did the research, now realise that sram has a lock down button. This does not.

Shifter is neat and tidy, slight play in the long lever but I really like the shape of the small one... There's a bulge on the inside of it so if you're someone that uses your thumb for both levers, it's so much more ergonomic than Shimano. You lose none of the feel when using the small lever like a trigger, same shape as Shimano on that side.

Other than that, it ran Smooth, quiet, and well. Doesn't like shifting up under too much strain, but I was shifting like a noob on a certain climb and should have known better.

Running it with the pulse crankset and chainring without hassle, used to have the chain come off the largest sprockets if I pedaled backwards - this does not!

All in all, for 2700 for all brand new bits, I'm super chuffed, very happy, and will buy sunrace again. Would like to try out their top end dérailleur but this one will definitely do for now!

ENJOY !!

Please give us feedback.  Hopefully this is a reliable cost effective alternative for the many weekend riders out there ... (like me)

Thanks for the feedback Joss, awesome news there's some affordable competition in the market, hope its like Lyne dropper posts compared to say a Reverb, great value that just works.

Keep us updated in a month or 2 on how it's going!

I myself have wrestled with getting greater top end by having a 10/46 and 32 or 34 up front

Only to realise that perhaps if that's what I want to do is perhaps but a road bike.

Guys if you consider what it comes down to ,think about what gears you need to ride mtb/trails /off road.

Guys pay astronomical prices on gear ,only to neglect their conditioning.

Nothing nicer than kicking a guy who is on a 80k bikes but with a 25k bike or even an SS

How nice does it really feel?

Sure, rider condition should be the main focus.

Some of us are still trying to do the trails without e-bikes, nursing all kinds of battle scars .... The 12 speed allows ME the range of gears I need to get up steep hills, and just enough top end for stretches of tar to the trails and back ....

And then I set in the granny, and sweat up a hill ... to see a fitter rider power up in a higher gear.  And admire their form, and say "respect".

for the rest of us out of shape crocks .... damn those 12 gears help   :whistling:

I love how threads inevitably turn into a willy measuring contest! haha

With all the haters on the 'Do e-bikes belong on the mountain' thread, one would think everyone would welcome cheaper, decent alternatives to 'the big 2' to keep the e-bikes at bay for a year or 2 longer. Keep guys pedaling on their own steam...

Instead of being so critical, lets just be realistic and say that for R2700 for an 11-50 cassette, 12 speed chain, shifter and RD, does it compare to the most basic sram/shimano groupset?

IMHO it does and that is fantastic.

First off, I'm clearly not on an 80k bike, nor am I spending an astronomical amount on bits... In fact, this thread is in pursuit of the exact opposite.

Coming from a road background, I tend to be partial to faster, flatter trails than gnarly single-track and monster gravity trails, so yes, top end improvement is a very real pursuit. Add to that the fact that I prefer to ride to the trailhead and that has to be on the tarmac, it suits my riding just fine.

You will most likely blast past me on the climbs, as I'm a fatty, but I can at least pursue enjoyable riding through the improvement of the bikes components, with your permission...

Morning guys and gals :-)

So I have a 2016 model epic. its a 2x10. will the 12 speed fit my rear hub.? Then the next question is, if you start changing the size of the front blade, say from a 36 down to a 32, do you need to shorten the chain, or can you change the blade to suit the next type of ride you are doing with no worries.

I hope that makes sense :-)

Cheers, T-Bag

For the GX a new hub is needed.

From what I heard this is the advantage of the NX .... as it fits onto the standard hub.

Changing the front blade you need to check the rear derailure on the smallest and largest, then set the chain accordingly.  Not sure if there is a magic number of links that would accommodate both 32 and 36 ... think it may be possible ....  will follow the thread to hear what the others say.

Sunrace and Nx 12sp will work on the hub you have.

So the MS that CWC is offering won't work, would that be correct..?

Really appreciate your time
