Will they or won't they? See if you can call it (without first reading the video description). nvm- the title gives it away, but it's an amazing video anyway

Hectic...

Question to @LWB.  If a door (entry doors into cabin not cargo door) was to be fixed on an airliner, is it regulation that for a number of seats around that door is not to be occupied for the next flight and if so for how many flights is this the case?

I am saddened by the slow demise of one of my favourite hobbies, being RC airplane kit building and flying. I am thinking of building a nice SIG Spacewalker 1/4 scale. Damn prices of kit like engines, electronic gear and covering have skyrocketed, not helping in the slow demise.

To make it even worse, I own a JR radio, and they have folded few years ago.

I'm seeing some stunning builds on YouTube, especially on the RAMY RC and RCHeliJet channels.

Agree with the pricing issue. I had a quick look at the price of the bigger radial engines - nearly passed out. I could buy a decent BMW adventure bike for that kind of money.

Seems to be pretty big here in Germany

The Germans have always been big in this hobby. But the hobby is salvageable. One just have to go back to the origins and scale back a bit. So many plans available on the internet for the old faithfulls like the Aeromaster, Trainer 40/60, Four Star 40/60, etc.

The planes have just sort of crept to bigger and bigger in the last years, and everybody wanted a big plane with 100cc and bigger engines.

I was into simpler stuff when last involved.. Small electric and electric gliders. I have dozens of plans from RCM&E magazine over the years. Need to get building again and digging out the old machines. My first radio is a SA built Futaba, Sataba two channel sold to commemorate the world glider champs in SA in 1978. Still functions in an old Gentle Lady. I do fancy to learn to fly electric helis, perhaps something by Align.......but $$$$!

I have a little JR Forza 450. What an absolute brilliant little heli. Such a pity JR folded, though I think you can still buy them. I also have an Align TREX Pro 500. I am not real good with the helis though. And parts prices are eina, IF you can get the parts.

The large glider is a 2,5m kit from the 1990’s, I forget the name but It was by The Balsa Cabin. Gentle Lady at 78” span, a 54” Osprey built in 1994. The electric glider is a simple own design with the left over and renovated wing of a Pilot QB1400 (1,4 m span) glider that I built around 1979. Little powerplane is from an RCM&E plan Yard Ace. Very simple and light weight.

I really must dig them out of storage and get them airborne again. They have been packed up since we moved from Josie nearly 4 years ago.

Edited.....Whoops, Gentle Lady not in the pic!

I fancy the heli’s as my garden is large enough, well.......if I was competent enough! Yup, nice TREX would do the trick.

I have a Great Planes Spirit that had a slight misunderstanding with a barbed wire fence. The wing is OK and needs covering. The fuse's tail got destroyed. Actually want to see if I can build a electric motorised fuse for it. Love the gracefull flight of gliders. In wondered yesterday if the owner of Helderberg Farm would allow me to lauch it from the jeep track at the top. Would be fun if the SW is blowing mildly.

Yip JR under, Thunder Tiger also gone under.... even looking at the mighty HobbyKing online store these days that was the go to for everything, they now only have one 450 size heli kit, it doesn't include blades and HobbyKing don't carry a single 450 size blade any more when we used to have a choice of a hundred. Li-Po's can now also only be sent via courier. Batteries are making the hobby very expensive, most of my heli'd have sat on the shelf just for lack of affordable power packs (and time). A Cathay pilot friend was bringing me some batteries and then lockdown hit

I have the same issues with my electric helis. Batteries almost always out of stock. In fact most things are permanently out of stock. I want to buy a SIG Spacewalker 1/4 scale kit, and not one hobbyshop in the whole of SA has stock. And none of them foresee them having stock in the near future. Can't even find a firm favourite like the Four Star 60 or 40 in stock. Kitbashing seems to be the only option as I found the plans online for all of them.
