Not for me on this build tho. Might need some of Skollie’s suggestions when it is done tho.

Edit: I have some of this https://www.zoetis.co.za/products/dogs/terramycin-wound-spray.aspx so I think I’ll be okay.

As someone who is notoriously clumsy. I get super nervous around the drive train.

Which is why I wear gloves. So I don't grate my fingers over the cassette or something.

Most of the bike can be assembled with common sense and basic tools. The tools I have...

I built a bike in a hotel room and even pressed in headset / BB with a homemade press I made.

Took the following with me:

 - multitool with allen keys

 - small shifting spanner

 - hex multi-tool

 - cassette tool

 - chain breaker

 - hacksaw (threw away after, was used to cut steerer)

 - cable cutters

 - scissors

And a tube of grease, carbon assembly paste, chain lube, a shock pump and that's it.

OP, please make sure you get a torque wrench!

You can easily build a bike without one, but the number of times I have seen people break bolts, especially in the stem...

So, the question remains, what frame, and how much later in the year...?  What are you thinking?  Hardtail, squish, XC, Enduro, 29er, Plus Size?  Depending on how much later in the year, I know of something that will tick most of these boxes, and not break the bank...!

That sounds like a good story. Why, when how? Please tell.

the bike I wanted wasn't available in SA, so I took the wheelset I wanted, and then had a friend in the UK who helped me get the parts (shipped all to him + frame), and I wanted to ride the thing, so I decided to build it in my hotel room.   Took minimal tools, worked out exactly what was needed, and can confirm pressing in a BB with a homemade press on a hotel room desk is aout as much fun as getting stabbed.

I kid you not.

I have one of the British Army Barb Wire Cutters with a 1914 year stamp on it....this thing slices cable or brake hosing like no one's business and cuts through a braided brake or gear cable like a hot knife through butter. An exceptional tool.

I like to use Marine Grease .... the brand I use is white (Can't recall the name off hand) .... when you open things up a few months down the road and the white grease is really dirty you know to clean it out and replace with new grease

Ah okay. Cool thanks guys. What grease should I get? Also had a look on amazon for a torque wrench. Are all created equal or should I bite the bullet and get a park tool one?

Awesome. This is pretty much how I will be doing it. We live in a small apartment in Kuwait so I don’t have space for a garage full of things.
