At least we can still buy this in bulk to deal with the local pricing

We should be buying this size for all the shafting we tolerate in SA....

This. Sucks.

If local service were adequate I wouldn’t complain. Coolheat does nothing for the LBS and even less for the customer in my experience. I was recently advised to buy a new bike because my freehub body had to be replaced and Coolheat couldn’t be bothered to stock the part. Why am I riding an old (perfectly adequate) bike? Because, dude, I can’t afford a new one.

Am seriously sick of the attitude that only rich people matter.

if it's a Shimano hub I've had no problems replacing those for about R300 a go. Last one I ordered from Bike Addict.

Maybe you should find a new LBS. I’ve always had fantastic support from Coolheat. And always willing to help me.

Often LBS blame the suppliers because A) they want to sell you something newer, more expensive and less hassle to get. Or B) are just lazy to do the foot work needed.

LBS’s who are service focused and not $$$$ focused are the ones to go to.

Agreed.

You need to service your customers whether it is a R300 freehub or a R100,000 new bike,

You can no longer buy Sram online and are forced to pay local high prices, no you can no longer buy Shimano online and are forced to pay local high prices.

Time to start supporting Microshift.

thought I would test the shuffle out the other day and it seems to not be an option anymore.....

I was just in it and did the shuffle with a 11 sp xt groupset.

Just check prices on 11spd XT.

I bought from CWC last month at better prices than CRC. Not sure if same holds now.

Must have mossed that. Hopefully thy might have another sale and slash the 11sp kit. You never seem to get the good price on a full groups from CWC it seems. It's alway a discount on the drive train set and not with all the kit n cranks etc.

Nope not LBS. I tried more than one. They got the part but it took a mere 2 months and had to be ordered specifically. Being an older hub Coolheat didn’t have stock. I know this story as for a while I worked in a bike shop and did the ordering so had a good look at what was in stock and what wasn’t. Really, I understand the local supplier doesn’t want to hold parts that people don’t often want but then they mustn’t lock us out of getting it elsewhere!!

This

Tried to order Ultegra Disk rotors via LBS. Shimano Malaysia came back with "no stock, please order online". Then the main online merchants don't want to ship here...

Bitter taste in my mouth - they want to have their bread buttered on both sides. If they want to be protected, then they need to supply catalog parts in realistic time schedules - even if it gets couriered - that you pay extra for. (That can be aggregated into weekly group orders by country to limit costs)

Got sorted from a small Italian online dealer that had stock.

Same

Mavic blocked international orders and I couldn’t order UST Pro road rims (not entire wheel) as I did previously from Sigmasport. Neither did Mavic’s local distributor stock it. So I’m stuck. Have to look at other brands’ for another pair of UST road rims, as I can’t replace my damaged rim with same. Enquired at a couple of local bike shops to get it - all came back with Mavic does not stock that rim in SA. And it’s not old an old component.

Did manage to get one in through Starbike, but if they close those up I’m going to be stuck for good.

Totally pathetic.

How do you grow your market when your business model kills it? Mavic and Shimano are too big to care, I suppose. But if the distributor thinks they are going to score like this, less chance.

Personally, I can't afford to replace a bike every 2 to 5 years but I do spend a fair bit on servicing and upgrading, and then on cycling-related items and of course events, so stuff my ability to ride my bike up and the rest will go with it too.

*Edit: to add, the reason I landed up with a freehub replacement issue is because I upgraded to the best Mavic rims/wheelset available  :w00t:
