Speed limits

use google maps street view and look for the speed limit sign

I can do that from the car... :) (there are none, hence my question)

You join the road in question from a 60 zone on the M7 West. There are no signs to indicate that the speed has changed and you are heading into an urban area so the 60 kph limit sounds right. However heading the other way there are road works and the recommended speed shows 100/80/60 as you approach the roadworks but nowhere before that does it show the actual speed limit. Was just curious to know what it actually was as 100kph seems a bit quick seeing as you are still in an urban area.

I recall the R102 going the other way is the same, with zero signs ( I just followed a taxi last time, he seemed to know where the speedkops were  )

I'd venture a guess and say anything from 60-100

As it runs through urban areas in some part and is not closed offf

Fair assumption to make but that is a wide band. In my mind it is 60 but I get passed along there like I am standing still....

What sucks about roads like this is, you are obeying the law but you are actually in danger of being hit from someone doing almost double your speed. The one highway I use from time to time comes to an end at a robot and the speed limit reduces from like 2/3km's out and the last km is 60kph. but very few people bother to obey and slow from 120 to 0 in the last 50m. Even in the left lane I have people slamming on brakes to slow down behind me.

Spare a thought for us out-of-towners flying up for business ....

Renting a vehicle ... trying to figure out the route, the turns and keeping an eye out for the speed markers ....  Sort of helps when we are two in the car.

I now insist on using an UBER when flying out on business trips.  SO much nicer !!

By law if you don't know the speed, or its not posted, it's 60. So best way to know for sure...

I use this on road trips and its saved me from mega fines a couple of times..

I went and checked my vehicle tracking log (Thanks Discovery). The tracking device that is fitted sends info every 2 minutes under normal operations and it pinged twice long that stretch of road in both directions (once going to work and once coming home). The info sent shows date and time, speed (as well as speed limit), location and a few other things. Speed limit along that stretch of road is shown as 60kph.

You can download Waze on your phone, it shows your speed and speed limit in one of the corners if you go over it. I don't know how accurate it is, but for where I am driving it has always indicated the correct speed.

Waze is a gps app much like google maps, the benefit is that you can see speed cams accidents etc. on the road (people need to report it though).
