Crashed

So as Murphy would have it, following my post in the lady pro thread, I crashed my ass off today.

Was climbing a small hill and as I hit the crest I wanted to change to the big ring, it wasn't budging so I looked down and magically it changed. It was then I looked up and saw a pavement of a bus stop about 2m ahead of me.

I didn't have enough time to react and hit it square on. I went otb, tucked and rolled straight back up onto my feet having a look back at my bike.

The frame is fubar, split at the head tube/down tube junction. Bent the top tueb and down tube just ahead of the bb.

I was lucky to walk away with a couple scrapes but now I have to replace the frame and probably the fork.

Be careful chaps, all it takes is a spilt second and **** hit the fan.

Bliksem, I couldn't have been doing more than 20kmph, can't imagine a fall at 60

The slow falls can cause just as much damage ...

Glad you're ok.

I know busy recovering after a fall at SBR @66km/h

That freaks me out.  I had a friend who came off at SBR a year and a bit ago.  Had to be airlifted to a hospital. He's ok now and in fact completed an IM earlier this year.

I feel for you. My only major fall was a couple years ago at a whopping 8 kmh. Still did significant damage though. (1 herniated disk, 2 compacted disks and a rotated and shifted pelvis) Pretty much the same thing, took my eye off the ball for a second and boom.

My chiro is also a cyclist and his theory is that the high speed crashes are sometimes better. At low speed you go splat and all the impact force is absorbed by the body, at higher speeds you are like a stone skipping on the water, lots of roasties but the force is more horizontal like. Unless of course you hit something like a wall or pole or something like that.

Agree to the quick healing for the earth-meeters! (I hate the word fall or crash, it gives me shivers all over)

Had my share a couple of years ago on the Magalies Monster. Slow speed uphill, just before a waterpoint, slow rider in front, front wheel decided to challenge a rock on the single "spoor".

Two weeks later, shoulder op, four months after that knee op, both of them earth meeting related

So, watch it out here, plenty opportunities to send your savings to the medics!

Yip, there are those that have fallen and those that are going to fall, not much in between. 3 years back, finishing a MTB ride, pedal strike on rock in long grass and OTB. PCL torn off so reconstructive surgery. Pinched a piece of my hammy and built a new one. :)  Since then: 70.3, full IM and Joberg2C. Trans Baviaans in a couple of weeks. All that in my 50's.

Heal well you all!
