which one of the 2 wall mounting options is best?

I have 3 bikes that needs to be stored in my garage.

I bought 3 of these: https://www.takealot.com/tork-craft-wall-mount-bicycle-hook-bike/PLID53023388

But because of the space issue, it only works for one bike. (Gelmar sells them for R100.)

It seems like one of these will work better to get the bikes closer to the wall.

Pros/Cons?

Or is this a better option?

Or is it much of muchness?

to me the black one takes preference since your bike tire wont scuff up the wall. the strap also wont chew up your crank/pedal overtime imo

cons: more fidgety? with the extra strap business and maybe won 't fit all the tire sizes if you have fat rubber. purely based on picsand no experience.

if I had to choose between them i'd probably go with the black option only because of the wall/tire marking issue....especially because my bikes would have to be mounted inside the house lol

I was also concerned (w.r.t  the willehonde) with the constant "weight" on the peddle, and the "pulling force" that it will create.

Yea thought the same...especially because its an oblique force...but then again it's on the crank so.....

The strap business might require a hand to mount i think...since the bike will not be fixed in place once you lift it onto the platforms....unless i'm missing some sort of step in the way it mounts ofcourse. The best mount imo is probably something between these two lol

It will only incur a small percentage of the torque you exert when pedalling.

I think it should be fine.

Still prefer the black option though

Do you want those type rack, because you can get the bike up and out the way?

Have you considered anything else?

Vertical storage maybe or what about

if you have a towbar rack, have you considered installing a towball on the wall and then using the rack for storage?

Just some ideas, not sure if they are options.

on as slightly different note...I have read somewhere before that it is a no-no to hang a power metered crank on one oft these things (pedal hanging one)

edit: like leaving a constant weight on a precision scale...it can mess up the calibration

I have the ones that Gelmar sells, got 4 of them in the garage. There are two things I dont like about them.

1. They stick out a little far, this is good for getting the bikes up but a bit of a pain working around them once they are up.

2. If you have external cable routing the cradle tends to want to pinch it between the top tube and the cradle which can cause scratching.

I have something similar to the Willehonde mount, very easy to use. It does create a dirty mark on the wall where the tyre rests, but your bike is usually mounted on the wall, so you dont see it.

At worst you will need to repaint the area if you ever need to reorganize and move your bikes to a different area.

The "stress" on the crank is minuscule compared to what it sees when my 95kg is putting down the Watts in a climb, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Works for me.

Just add some clear or colour vinyl wrap to the wheel area

i still think there might be an argument pertaining ±15kg oblique tension force constantly being applied toacrank during storage.

EDIT: (ignore my other BS...i answered my own question with some math   :whistling:)

Maybe Gwinn hangs his DH bikes from the cranks haha?

Anyway...meh...its a bike rack, i get it

Just dont hang a power meter from one  i think.

Good idea to NOT hang it on the power meter  , it should be fine but if you have the option to not stress it unnecessarily then do it, just to be safe.

My bike is mounted on the other crank arm,  with the Stages facing away from the mount.

Could be. I don't know.

Just taking it's design and intended purpose into consideration, the load under which it operates for extended periods far exceed the <12&15kg force exerted while mounted.
